Free Will or Fate?

A messy love triangle featuring an older woman, a spunky 28-year-old man, and a suave, proper English gentleman.

Cassia and her Korean ancestors possess the ancient gift of reading faces and past lives, allowing them to match people with their “fated” significant others.

But does the past always have a say in our future? And if it does, is it always wise to let it dictate our choices?

Cassia finds herself torn between the predictability of tradition and the thrill of passionate spontaneity.

Ultimately, the story leaves us wondering: Are we meant to follow the path fate lays out for us, or trust our hearts to write a story of their own?
Either way, no matter what we choose, a love story is only as strong as the family that binds it together—much like a book held together by its binding.

I tried!

Sometimes, it isn’t about the writing; it’s about the connection. The right book finds the right reader at the right time, and sometimes, that reader just isn’t us.

Sunbathed in this bundle of warmth for 2 days straight!

This is a story about Nora, who shows us how life doesn’t always give us a chance to undo the past. There isn’t always enough time to heal from past wounds. Living is about cleaning the slate as best we can, bandaging those wounds, and learning to live with the scars that cannot be erased. It is about making peace with what was, embracing what remains, and finding the courage to open a window and let a sliver of light slip even on the darkest of days.

$Read # 38 of 2026✅ Some great quotes — only a tiny fraction! “She appeared to have jumped out of the frying pan of sexism and into the fire of ageism.” #The final frontier of isms.“ Where’s the fun in aging gracefully?’ said Daphne. ‘Personally, I intend to age as disgracefully as possible.’” “Her comfort zone was exceedingly spacious, but this experience lay well outside of it.” “She needed to turn over a new leaf. Become an entirely new plant, even.” “Despite her age, Daphne seemed to have the hearing of an adolescent bat.” @clare_pooley #howtoagedisgracefully by @messy_mind_writes$

With less than 3 months and 12 books to read, I think it’s time to feel the pleasurable pressure and convert this private goal into a public commitment!

48 books by my 48th birthday. Let’s do this!!

Read #36 of 2026 took me on a bumpy trip down memory lane!

A may-never-have-another one kind of trip in an RV across states—albeit minus a death-foreboding cat, two abandoned teenagers, a woman in the throes of a prime midlife crisis, and an elderly man ripe with… well, life experience. 😄

But the nostalgia was real—a journey filled with unexpected passengers, twists, turns, and detours, yet packed with a trunkful of unforgettable memories.

Delusion at its delightful best—this one was such a fun, one-of-a-kind read!

Continuing with my streak of endearing reads, I just finished “The Lido” by Libby Page. 💛
At the heart of this beautiful story is Rosemary, an utterly lovable 87-year-old woman, and her determination to save the local lido—a place that has been an integral part of her life and has become a melting pot for her community.
What I loved most about this book is how gently it explores community, friendship, love, resilience, and the simple joy of cohabiting and coexisting peacefully.
It’s a story about how places can hold memories, how strangers can become family, and how a community can come together when something they love is at risk of being lost.
A gentle, heartwarming read that left me with a big smile and an even bigger appreciation for the little communities we create around us. 🌿💙

Love notes, secretly tucked into books for their intended recipients, find their way into the wrong hands. What begins as a case of mistaken identity leads to messy beginnings, unexpected connections, and ultimately meaningful relationships.

BTW, this is NOT a book about horses. 🐎 Sometimes, true love takes half a lifetime to truly manifest.
