Our new paper led by newly minted Dr. Burke is out now! Following up on recent work showing ‘microbial-derived exerkines’ prevent muscle atrophy, here we extend their utility to ENHANCING EXERCISE PERFORMANCE AND ADAPTATION 🏃🏋🏻‍♀️
We demonstrate that 2 of these metabolites (pipecolic acid and succinate) enhance strength and power adaptations to exercise beyond those achieved with creatine, the current gold-standard ergogenic aid for strength and power performance. Are MDEs a novel class of ergogenic aids?! Of course, keep in mind these are all still just in mice. by @metabomyopathylab

An honor to be a co-author on this manuscript in JAMA reporting on the results of the PERMET clinical trial led by Dr. Mary McDermott. Once touted as a wonder drug, this adds to a growing number of trials questioning the efficacy of metformin to extend health-span. by @metabomyopathylab

A great collaboration with Dr. Mary McDermott @nufeinbergmed online now in JVS Vascular Science @societyforvascularsurgery

Using spatial transcriptomics, we found exercise + telmisartan reduced myostatin expression in myofibers and led to increased myofiber size. by @metabomyopathylab
