Photo Credential denied. The words all photographers hate to read. But damnit. I’m from NY and NYHC is what I love. The Godfathers of NYHC Agnostic Front were opening for Turnstile in Raleigh. By any means necessary, I’m shooting the boys!
Armed with only a point and shoot 28mm camera, that shoots only black and white, I entered the mosh pit and got to the railing. What a show and they sounded great!

NYHC DIY ethos in full effect.

Agnostic Front was incredible and shooting them was amazing. It’s also the first part of an amazing piece coming on rag-media.
More photos and write up are currently published at www.rag-media.com/agnostic-front

Raleigh’s own Attracting the Fall brought the hometown heavy to @chapelofbonesraleigh , delivering a mix of deathcore, death metal and groove. Supporting @cultusblack alongside @outliarmetal and @fictionparade , Attracting the Fall hit hard, kept the room moving and showed exactly why they remain part of Raleigh’s heavy underground.

More to come from this hometown lineup in future posts. taken in Chapel of Bones by @metal.rag

Sometimes you find out about a band through word of mouth, even if that band has been doing it for 30 yrs.

No Raza - @norazaofficial - is that band. I started listening to them when their show @chapelofbonesraleigh was announced as I was told they were legit. I’m also a fan of the Death Metal out of South America, as it has a thrash edge to it.

Absolutely worth seeing live. Cool group of guys and they crushed their set. This is one of those times you cherish as a photographer and a fan.

Read more at www.rag-media.com as I have a write up and more photos from their set. taken in Chapel of Bones by @metal.rag

We love Whores.
@whoresband played to a sold out room @chapelofbonesraleigh in support of @eyehategodnola on Monday night.

Bonkers epic! Absolutely mind blowing live! They killed it and I wrote about it here at

https://www.rag-media.com/news/we-love-whores

When you scroll through this the last two pics are awesome. Christian hands his guitar to a fan to end the set! Sick!

Whores. Are incredible live. That sound and tone is just sick. taken in Chapel of Bones by @metal.rag

SOLD-OUT show on Monday night for THE Eyehategod (@eyehategodnola ) @chapelofbonesraleigh

@whoresband and @nomasgrind whipped the crowd into a frenzy for Mike IX, Jimmy, and Gary just crushed the room. “Bower Power” was in full effect as the ENTIRE room was moshing. There pit just flowed into every corner of the room and it was awesome.

Mike is the quintessential frontman and the crowd loves him. And he gives the love back.

Overall it was a typical Eyehategod show…. Fcking skull crushing. They never disappoint and there is nothing like seeing them at the Chapel. The room is perfect to keep you close and crushed.

Absolutely loved this show! More to be said at www.rag-media.com in the upcoming days. 6 shows in 10 days so I’m a little behind on the articles. I write em, not AI like. Some other sites., so it takes a bit. taken in Chapel of Bones by @metal.rag

Omaha’s Catsclaw came out swinging at a sold-out Chapel of Bones, opening the night for Volumes with an absolutely crushing set.

Blending metalcore with thall-heavy grooves and industrial textures, Catsclaw brought serious weight to the room. filthy breakdowns, punishing low end and the kind of heaviness you feel in your chest.

No easing into this one. Catsclaw set the tone early and set it HARD. taken in Chapel of Bones by @metal.rag

Until I Wake (@untiliwake ) supported @volumesla at @chapelofbonesraleigh for a SOLD-OUT show.

While that was awesome there were a couple of key things for me that had me amped to see them.

1 - Cody Jamison, founding vocalist, returned to the band last year, so it felt complete to see this lineup.

2 - the boys are from Buffalo, NY and I’m a CNYer. So what does that mean? It means I’m amped to support my WNYer brothers. IYKYK!

These guys have a great sound and I dig on how their music covers topics that hit home. But what makes them a blast is the way they talk the crowd into surfing the shit out of the place. Scroll through and you’ll see all the sacrifices offered up to Cody and the boys.

Great set, highly recommend you check them out. They are metalcore so for me to recommend them lets you know they got it. Huge hooks, emotional subject matter and enough post-hardcore/electronic influence to keep them from being a straight breakdown band.

On Tuesday night Extortionist hit the stage in support of @thebrowningofficial in a sold out show at @chapelofbonesraleigh

These guys bring a deathcore with vicious Midwest beatdown style breaks. They hit the stage and had the crowd moshing in no time. I felt they sat in that KublaKhan and Claymore vibe but they had a little more going on that really got me moving.

On top of a killer set they also had one of my favorite merch shirts of the season so far. “divorced dad deathcore club”. IYKYK.

Looking forward to seeing them again in the future.

Write up coming on www.rag-media.com

In 2012 James McHenry started a concept, #cybergrind, out of Chicago. On Tuesday night his band, @blindequation was opening for @thebrowningofficial to a sold out show @chapelofbonesraleigh

There is no bassist, no guitarist, yet they drive a ferocious sound leveraging the keytar

They leverage computers to create savagely heavy music that is beyond grindcore/deathcore. It’s wild. Everything screams “this won’t work” until you hear them, until you see them, until you feel those tones smash through your chest.

I’m a believer and will be following these guys to see where they take their sound. Here’s to all those that blaze their own path!

See them live, you won’t regret it. And yes. Computers can get fcking heavy! taken in Chapel of Bones by @metal.rag

Tuesday night the entire room @chapelofbonesraleigh was moving. Not just moshing but grooving and slamming. The sold out show featuring @thebrowningofficial (The Browning) was absolutely bonkers.

In 2005 Jonny McBee created a sound. A sound that crosses so many lines it becomes something for a lot of people. Taking EDM and crossing in to Deathcore it absolutely fcking slams. Try to label it and it changes. At the end of the day, The Browning moves you. Just scroll through and you’ll see the crowd reactions.

On another note, McBee is a chill fcking dude. Got a chance to talk a bit with him before doors opened and he’s just a regular guy that still loves making music that bangs.

Catch the live show, no streaming will ever match the energy they bring to the room! taken in Chapel of Bones by @metal.rag

To have the opportunity to shoot this show was a completion of a circle. ⭕️

Keith Morris, started with Black Flag, kicks on with Greg Hetson back in 79-80 to create the @circlejerksband Circle Jerks. There are a handful of punk bands that have felt like the soundtrack of my life. These guys are a big part of it.

Sold out show at Cats Cradle and the crowd was amazing. There were youngsters and geezers like me. The fact that the Circle Jerks can still reach the youth today and sell out a room of over 700 shows they are iconic.
The crowd was in it and they nailed it, in a very South Bay way!

I will have more to say on rag-media.com this week. Check it out, plus there will be a photo dump for the entire show. The lineup today is intact and Castillo on drums is incredible.

This wasn’t nostalgia, it was punk and banging all the way. taken in Cat’s Cradle Backroom by @metal.rag

Thursday night was @municipalwaste night as they opened for the Circle Jerks. What a fcking show they put on. This is the second time I’ve seen them live and it won’t be the last.
These guys hit the stage hard and it’s all about having fun. They get it, they play to the fans and thrash the hell out. As you scroll through you’ll see they are having a blast and the fans, well we fcking love them!

A full show write up will be coming out on rag-media.com this week so check it out and get a chance to see all the photos from the show. This is just a sample. taken in Cat’s Cradle Backroom by @metal.rag
