We’re thrilled to announce our final book for 2026: The Goat’s Tongue by @s.ole.peace, winner of the International Metatron Poetry Prize~ as chosen by @devilintraining_ 👑

An interdisciplinary poetry collection rooted in Yoruba folklore, symbolic language, performance, silence, soil, and becoming, The Goat’s Tongue traces the story of a girl, a goat, and an owl as they move through landscapes of vulnerability, belonging, memory, and transformation.

Written in English alongside a symbolic language developed during Peace’s 138-hour performance ritual Ori. Ara. Emi. (Ori. Ori. Peace Akintade–Oluwagbeye, the 11th Saskatchewan Poet Laureate, is an African-Canadian interdisciplinary poet, oral historian, and choruspoem playwright residing in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Organically from Yorubaland Nigeria, her work knits together folklore, abstract riddles, and Òwé Yorùbá elements of poetry to create a collective oneself.

Mind Bath’s Aqueous is a conceptual literary-musical odyssey through queer fantasy, mysticism, trauma, and transformation.

Part auto-fiction, part psychedelic hero’s journey, Aqueous follows N.E.W.T., an effervescent stardust boy who cuts a hole in the sky and awakens in a utopic realm far from the violent dominions of Earth. In this sanctuary of pleasure and radical queer possibility, he encounters a wisdom-dropping flower, transcendent rituals, sublime outsiders, and the looping energy blueprint of the 10 Days of Celestial Bodies.

Only on Day of Moon can N.E.W.T. remember what came before. As he turns toward the shadows of the unconscious mind, Aqueous becomes a healing text: a strange, tender and luminous meditation on queer resilience, spiritual imagination, and the courage required to transpose the core wound into a seed of hope.

𝓜𝓲𝓷𝓭 𝓑𝓪𝓽𝓱 is a musician, writer, DJ, and hippie fagabond. Raised in a small town in the BC Rockies, his work moves through lush queer poetry, left-field production, intimate vocals, spiritual devotion, and sonic exploration. Aqueous is his first book, published by Metatron Press, and accompanies a conceptual full-length album released by Lighter Than Air @lighterxair. The companion album Aqueous by Mind Bath will be released alongside the book on vinyl and streaming platforms on September 4, 2026.

READINGS, A SPECIAL PERFORMANCE & DANCE PARTY

Come hear some excellent readings, dance, and gather with Metatron & Metonymy Press for a special Sunday fundraiser supporting independent English-language publishing in Montréal.

For more than a decade, our two presses have made space for writing that might not find a home elsewhere: poetry, fiction, nonfiction and hybrid work that takes risks, crosses boundaries, and refuses to make itself smaller or easier to consume. Work that is strange, political, vulnerable, unruly, and free.

Queer people from all over the world gather and create roots in Montréal. They meet here, make things here, fall in love here, and change one another here. Our presses grew out of that energy, championing emerging writers and contributing to a growing lineage of queer and trans literature in Montréal and beyond.

But independent publishing is fragile. As English-language presses in Québec, we're left out of local and provincial granting opportunities, while federal arts funding remains limited and inconsistent. Making books, paying artists, supporting writers and creating spaces for literature to thrive all require real resources.

That's where our community comes in. ♡

Every ticket or purchase will help us keep taking chances on writers, making beautiful books, and creating spaces where literature feels alive and shared.

We'll kick things off with readings and a very special performance, followed by DJs carrying us into an early-evening Sunday dance party. Come for the books, stay for the dancing, and still be home at a reasonable hour!

We'll also have books from both presses and very limited-edition merch available throughout the event.

This gathering is for the readers, writers, artists, queers, friends, collaborators and local weirdos who have sustained our presses—and anyone who wants risky independent literature to keep growing.

Bring your friends. Discover your next favourite writer. Buy a book. Tip your bartenders. Wear the merch. Dance with us.

We are so excited to announce Peace Akintade-Oluwagbeye’s first Toronto launch for The Goat’s Tongue 🐐💗

And we’re especially thrilled that it’s happening with Another Story Bookshop ~ a Toronto literary institution we’ve admired for a long time and have been wanting to collaborate with for years.

Since 1987 (!), Another Story has built an incredible home for independent literature, with a deep commitment to social justice, equity and diversity, and a long history of championing marginalized writers, local authors and independent presses. They’re the kind of bookstore that understands bookselling as community-building, and we couldn’t imagine a better home for Peace’s Toronto debut. They have been so supportive of us and our books over the years, and it just means so much to be launching this incredible book in their space ✨
