Great customer service is as simple as helping someone recover something they thought was gone forever.

Today we're recognizing Jennice Coleman from Lost & Found and OJ Fields at Ogilvie Transportation Center for going above and beyond to help reunite a rider's daughter with a lost phone. After the phone was misplaced, Jennice and OJ worked together to locate the device and guide the customer through the recovery process. Their patience, kindness and commitment turned what could have been a frustrating experience into a positive one.

The customer shared, "Chicago is really the city that cares," and credited Jennice and OJ for making the experience so memorable. Lost items are turned in across the Metra system every day, and dedicated employees like Jennice and OJ help ensure those belongings find their way back to their owners.

Thank you both for demonstrating the exceptional service and care that make a difference for our riders every day. #MetraServiceStars by @metrarail

Metra and one of region’s cultural icons, Lyric Opera of Chicago, are teaming up to offer free Metra rides to Lyric shows between Nov. 20 and Nov. 29. Just show your Lyric ticket to the conductor on the day of your show and you can ride to the show and home free.

Lyric is offering three shows during that timeframe: Wagner: Myth & Music, Don Pasquale, and Disney’s Encanto In Concert Live to Film. The venue at 20 N Wacker Drive is within a walk or short cab ride from all of Metra’s downtown stations.

Riders can travel free on Metra on the date printed on their show ticket (paper or digital). The offer is valid for all Metra lines and includes round-trip travel — to the theatre and back. Riders must show their show ticket to the conductor when asked.

“We are proud to partner with Lyric Opera of Chicago to promote their world-class shows and our fast, convenient, stress-free travel,” said Metra Executive Director/CEO Jim Derwinski.

Finding your way should be simple.

This summer, Metra installed the first elements of its new systemwide wayfinding program at the Edgebrook Station along the Milwaukee District North rail line, creating a real-world pilot for the next generation of station signage. The installation is part of a broader effort to replace and add more than 20,000 signs across the system network, improving accessibility, readability, and travel guidance for customers.

The new signs are designed to help riders move through stations more confidently, whether they're identifying platforms, locating accessibility features, finding customer information, or navigating safely to their destination. The Edgebrook pilot allows Metra to evaluate the new standards before expanding them across the system in the years ahead.

By investing in clearer, more consistent wayfinding, we're making every trip easier to navigate while strengthening the Metra experience for current and future riders.

I recently joined Metra officials in a press conference to celebrate their new battery-powered trains. As the company begins replacing its diesel-fueled trains with new, zero-emission electric train cars, our communities will enjoy quieter rides, cleaner air, and more sustainable transit.

Here’s to the future of transit!⚡️🚆

Sometimes the most important part of the job goes far beyond onboard safety.

We're recognizing the onboard crew of Rock Island Train 402, Michael Hensley, Anthony Bruce and Michael Wellner, for their compassion and professionalism when they encountered a young person in crisis near Auburn Gresham Station.

After noticing the individual on the tracks, the crew quickly responded, helping the person to safety, remaining with them, and treating them with dignity and kindness while waiting for first responders to arrive.

Multiple customers took the time to commend the crew, noting how calmly and respectfully they handled an incredibly difficult situation.

Thank you, Michael, Anthony and Michael, for demonstrating the care, compassion, empathy and dedication that define excellent customer service and embody Metra's commitment to serving our communities.
