hike # 1 of 2025 ✨

- fun, mostly open trail w manageable assault~ you think you can see the summit—surprise! not the summit, the rest of the mountain was just hidden from view, repeat 3x or so
- wildly hot bec no trees, insane lines for the summit marker

as I went around taipei, I really kept thinking it’s the kind of trip the fam prolly would have enjoyed: lots of food to eat/try, easy to go around, relatively inexpensive.

so I went for it ✨

finally got to gift my parents an all-expenses* paid overseas travel (*mom still wanted to bring her own extra pocket money). 💛 super long overdue, honestly should’ve done it while I was still in hospitality, but the next best time is now. ✨

entire trip was less than 2 wks in the planning which led to an inchresting itinerary and stay plans: a morning in ximen, then 2 nights in juifen (so we can rest nearby when we go around the area), and a final night back in ximen ✨

short and sweet, fairly paced trip:

day 1
✔️ cks memorial hall and surrounding areas
✔️ taipei 101 mall
✔️ raohe night market

day 2
✔️ slept in all rainy morning at juifen 💛
✔️ a bit of ruifang old street while waiting for train
✔️ shifen old street
✔️ juifen old street at night

day 3
✔️ juifen old street in the day
✔️ hot pot and xlb
✔️ ximending aft to evening

pretty solid 😌

got a decent mean exchange rate (also learned bpi ccs are pretty good for overseas swipes), got to use some miles (having to pay taxes on miles-paid travel still feel scam-esque), but overall a win! ✨

had a blast during my first time in Taiwan 🇹🇼! ✨

randomly booked the tickets during a seat sale with no expectations, and fortunately had some friends join meee! thanks to mag-jowa @nickieesese and @_bellanicxx for being game w our loose itinerary and on-ze-fly changes! 💛✨

a few taipei travel learnings:

✔️ withdraw from atms using maya/gotyme/gcash for better exchange rates

✔️ don't get the klook pass unless ur going for the most intense jam packed trip -- better to just handpick things you actually want ✨

✔️ try to catch the 2nd to the last trip for things haha unless u wanna risk getting stuck in places

✔️ ximen def best area to stay!

really lucked out with our accoms and fortunately caught most (not all) of the /last train trips/ we went for ;)

loved Baguio so brought the fam along on another weekend! ✨

we haven't gone there yet as a complete unit (parents + me looong ago, then just mom+pea another time) so it's actually a first! and the last complete trip in a while 💛

tsokolate de batirol (the restaurant) is the best & worth all the hype. the hot drink itself is pretty good too ✨ taken in Baguio City, Philippines by @meyruh
