This Yellow Warbler posed perfectly for us when we were at Plum Island in June! These guys are one of the few warblers that actually stay in New England for the entire summer after they migrate up in spring.

Two last pictures of my series of the beautiful Common Nighthawk - in the first one I love how her tail looks exactly like the bark coming off of the tree! Once she got into her defensive stance that you can see in pic 2, we knew we were getting a bit too close for comfort, so we continued on our hike and left her alone to care for her babies. Thanks for following along for this mini-series of pics, I'll have plenty of more to share soon so stay tuned!

How many birds are in this pic? 🤔
If you answered at least 2, you're right! This Common Nighthawk was roosting with two of its babies just off the main trail on Plum Island. Don't believe there's more than one bird here? Look at the beaked ball of fluff between the ground and the mother Nighthawk's eye!

Ellesse and I were walking through a beautiful and newly laid hiking path on Plum Island when she said, "is that a rock?... WAIT IT'S A BIRD" Sure enough, this Common Nighthawk and two of its babies were roosting on the ground, totally blending in with the foliage, just a couple feet off the trail. We must have startled it a bit as it flew onto the railing and looked at us, but before we stepped away I managed to take this pic!

One of my favorite city park birds is the Northern Mockingbird. Mockingbirds can learn up to 200 songs in their lifetimes, and we've heard them imitating everything from a robin singing, to a seagull, to a car alarm!
