PROJECT ANDROMEDA — Beating the City Lightpollution

8.5 hours. 5 nights. 1 galaxy. Captured from the bortle class 8skies of The Hague, Netherlands.

Meet M31: the Andromeda Galaxy, captured with my ZWO Seestar S50 using 20-second exposures, combined into a mosaic.

The mission? To push the limits of astrophotography under Bortle 8 skies, one clear night at a time. Just photons, patience, and persistence. Every clear night counts. And this is only the beginning….

Project Andromeda continues.

Autumn is here! The mushrooms are showing off there awesome shapes and colors. In Ockenburgh there are plenty of mushrooms to be found if you look closely!

Time to get out, have a walk and get that macrolens dusted off 😉 See to soon in a forest somewhere?

Scheveningen Boulevard but with long exposures from a drone. The light trails shows the boulevard is always in motion. With no wind yesterday it was perfect to get the drone out and see if a “high” tripod could show something cool. Light painting 2.0.

- DJI Mini Pro 5
- Booth photos are a stack of 50x 2” exposure

The skyline of The Hague, written in the sky

Two moments, one city. From a quiet pink-blue pre sunrise to a sky on fire! The Hague you looked good this morning!

Which one would you choose: Photo 1 or photo 2?

The Hague Skyline - Day versus Night

Same skyline. Two completely different moods. One side caught in the last light of the day. The other after dark, when the city starts to glow.

Now I’m curious: which side would you choose?

Day or night?

Did you spot the sun pilar last evening at sunset?

Sun pillar — a rare atmospheric phenomenon created when sunlight reflects off tiny ice crystals in high-altitude clouds, creating a vertical column of light above the Sun.
Golden skies, glowing clouds and a rare sun pillar rising above the setting sun.

Sometimes the light gives you more than you asked for.

Standing tall between city and sea.

The lighthouse of Scheveningen near The Hague towers is 30m high and build in 1875. Pictures are taken with a DJI mini pro 5 at sunset.

When Thor decides to show off his thunder. Sometimes the night sky puts on a completely different show. No stars, no Milky Way. Just a storm rolling in over the North Sea near Kijkduin and The Hague.

Lightning illuminating the clouds, the dunes in the foreground and the sea disappearing into the darkness.

Honestly… I’ll take this kind of night too.

The Astro-selfie had to be part of the Milky Way experience I had in France. While the MSM Star Tracker was making the background, I was the main subject for the foreground. In the second shot I used one of those iconic old sheds that can be found all over France.

The foreground is stacked with a Milky Way sky and combined into one shot, using:

These are still my first steps into the world of astrophotography, and I’m honestly loving the process of figuring it all out one shot at a time. Thank you again for all the kind support on my previous astrophotography post! 🙏

The second night after I shot the Abbaye in Celles-sur-Belle I walked passed this Forrest Frame. That is the best way to describe it: The Road leading to a single three, while being framed by nature. I had to give this ago, it was a shot ment to be made.

The foreground is stacked with a Milky Way Sky and combined in one shot, using:

Last week on the 12th of August we experienced a solar eclipse in the most parts of Europe. While being on holiday in France, it was a nice opportunity to but the Seestar S50 to work.

We experienced a partial maximum of 96% as you can see on the sequence picture and number two. Really amazing to experience such a phenomenon.

Kind reminder: next eclipse is the 2nd of August 2027!
