@cotad.ch_mghihp members Alexandra, Valeria, Madeleine, Luke, Hanna, Betsi, and Gwen were proud to volunteer at Chelsea’s Disability Pride Month celebration, standing alongside community members, advocates, and organizations to honor disability identity, inclusion, and belonging. A special thank you to Flor Amaya, Director of Public Health for the @chelseacityhall and a @mghihpdpt alumna, for bringing the community together around the message that our differences make us stronger and inviting. It’s the 7️⃣th year of the Strength & Conditioning elective at @mghinstitute and we just finished our second of two labs at @rxstrengthtraining!

During week 1️⃣ we workshopped:
▪️Progressing and regressing complexities of movement
▪️Lower extremity movement patterns and the hip to knee dominant continuum
▪️Why movement away from “correct” or “optimal” form is still okay, and often seen in sport.

Today was week 2️⃣ and we explored:
▪️Upper extremity movement patterns
▪️Basic principles of coaching and cueing, including appropriateness of extrinsic vs intrinsic cues
▪️Dynamical Systems Theory and how to utilize constraints to promote motor learning. Huge thanks to @quinn.henochdpt for providing useful pre-class content for our students.

We ended today with an introduction to plyometrics. Although he couldn’t be here today, @chrispoirier.dpt was pivotal in the development of this content, and so was @zakgabor.dpt for stepping in at the last minute!!

Thank you to the Empower squad Dr. Matt Mooney and Coach Emily Beinecke (@ebeinsofine) for sharing their knowledge during these labs as well.

We are so grateful to Jeff and the team at @rxstrengthtraining for allowing us to utilize this amazing space each year!

It was awesome to engage in great discussion and open the doors for students to explore these topics in more depth in the future! This is the type of content we’d love to see more of in DPT curriculums to move our profession forward. taken in Rx Strength Training by @mgbupt
