USA Cycling Masters Criterium National Championships race report 🎉 🏆
For my non-cyclists friends- a criterium (also known as a crit) is typically a 0.5-1.5 mile circuit held “downtown” that features corners and high speeds, is crowd friendly and a little crazy -think roller derby. 🛼 🤪

Due to the heat/humidity I decided to warm up at the hotel to minimize heat exposure and help calm my nerves (one less thing to worry about). But I noticed my gears not shifting properly. Then I got to the race site and proceeded to back into a car while trying to parallel park (you try parking my GMC Yukon beast 🛻 with 4 bikes on the back 😬). Luckily the owner of the other car was there and given minimal damage, didn’t seem perturbed. After exchanging numbers, I headed to Comp Edge neutral support to look at my bike. They were soooo helpful and quickly fixed my mechanical ⚙️ 🙏🏻
Then, while the weather report showed no rain till 7 pm, it started drizzling around 4:45 (race at 5:15). At this point I was very thankful for all the racing in heavy rain practice I had this year (hello Mengoni and Grants Tomb ITKYK).

Once the race started, the rain fell more steadily, so I did my best to move up to top 10 spots as quickly as possible, protect my positioning , let others chase attacks by the baby masters, and follow trusted wheels (looking at you Leslie 👀). At 30 min in, Koch attacked and created a small@gap, Wheeler was bridging, and the chase group (about 10 of us) at 8-10 sec back when there was a significant crash that paused the race for about 10 min. Once we restarted there were only 9 laps left, so it was super 🌶️ , 🌧️ and roads were still 🍌 . With only 1 other in my age group in the pack, I knew my chances were good if I could stay upright. Coming into the last 2 corners, I made sure to have decent positioning and was able to follow good wheels and finish strong. 1st place 🥇 W45-49!

@adam.radford123 Thank you for convincing me to embrace crit racing and nurturing my inner sprint. @aeo_rt for all that winter sprint practice in ZRL, My IRL team @fc_racingteam, @velocioapparel for helping me look good. @dwindally super travel bud and 📸 @jason_whitman by @mgkplus3

Historic Riverton Crit was a tough one. I signed up last minute—originally planning to stay home and help the kids through exams—but after some convincing from @dwindally , a carpool plan with @stephanie.luff.nyc , and my husband helping with the homework, I made it to the start line.
The legs were there, but the execution wasn’t. A fumbled clip-in put me on the back foot early, and from there it was a short-lived race filled chasing, burning matches, and navigating a strong field with my rusty high-speed cornering. A reminder that my fitness alone isn’t enough - need to focus on my technical skills!
This season has been a grind. Between hypothermia, race-ending mechanicals, and a DNF, it hasn’t gone the way I’d hoped.
But on the positive side, this year, our team has grown to over 15 women—each learning, gaining experience, and finding their own success all while building a supportive cycling community. That part means a lot.
Right now it’s about focusing on the process, sharpening the details, and trusting that the results I know I’m capable of will come. And days like this—hard riding, lots of learning, and a fun carpool with good people—are a reminder of how strong this community is, and why I keep showing up.

What a weekend of racing with Signature Cycles!

Up in New Britain, Kate, Mik, Ana, Alex, Olena, and I raced the CT State Criterium Championships.

I was excited to defend my Master’s Women’s State Championship title after going head-to-head in some all-out sprint battles with former Colavita pro Brooke O’Connor, who came out of retirement to play. I’ve been hitting some of my best-ever 5-second power numbers on my Parlee RZ7 lately, so I felt confident going in. And yes, at 47, I’m still getting stronger! Fun fact - I met Brooke almost 20 years ago at the Tri-State Trek charity ride for ALS where we rode together, and she tried to convince me to race bikes then - wish I’d taken her advice earlier than 2021.

Between races, Sarah Sanborn introduced me to race tape (seriously, where has this been all my life?), and then Ana, Alex, and I lined up for the W1/2/3 race. We were hoping to launch Ana for a repeat victory, but some chaos on the hill had other ideas. I managed to snag a preem, and both Ana and Alex finished in the money.

Meanwhile, Kate (one of my coaching athletes) and Mik absolutely dominated the W4/5 race, sweeping up preems and finishing 1–2, while Olena, who’s been coming to my Friday shop rides, crushed her first-ever U.S. crit with a 7th-place finish.

Down in New Jersey, Linda (one of my coaching athletes) and Kristin tackled the Highlands Gran Fondo, with Kristin finishing 3rd and Linda taking the WIN in their respective age groups.

Honestly, the best part of the day was spending time with so many strong women on bikes, sharing stories, cheering each other on, and finally racing in warm weather. After a spring full of cold, rainy races, I’ll take hot and humid any day.

Also, a quick shout-out to my sponsors @parleecycles @kasksport @maurten_official and @assos_com. The new Assos race gloves got their first race-day workout, and the Maurten fuel kept me rolling through a long day of racing. 🙌

What a way to start June. ❤️ by @mgkplus3

Last week, more than half of the @signaturecycles women’s racing team headed to Greenville, SC for a few days in the saddle—focusing on base miles and finding our climbing legs.

Spanning four decades—from mid-20s to mid-60s—our group reflected so many stages of womanhood: a med student, a newly engaged rider, moms with little ones, moms with grown kids, and even one with a baby on board.

We shared stories of how we balance racing with life—careers, kids, perimenopause, menopause—and everything in between. Advice was given, connections were made, and we pushed, supported, and inspired each other on every climb and descent.

Grateful for the miles, the laughs, and the memories.🫶

The first half of June has been a whirlwind of racing, learning, and leveling up with the Signature Cycles Women’s racing team.

It started June 1st at the Lime Rock Grand Prix, where Ana, Alex, Jane, and I put some team tactics to the test.

The next weekend kicked off at Prospect Park for the first Lucarelli & Castaldi Women’s Series race with Alex, then rolled straight into back-to-back racing at the CT Masters Crit Champs with Ana, Alex, Linda, and me lining up in both the W Masters and W1/2/3 fields. Thank goodness for Maurten products keeping me properly fueled.

After racking up 20 upgrade points in one weekend, I pulled the trigger and submitted for my Cat 1 upgrade.

Last weekend at Harlem marked my first race as a Cat 1—equal parts imposter syndrome and confidence—but I held my own in a fast and spicy pro field, and trusted the process and my legs- @nexuselite_performance

Feeling the form coming together just in time to light it up at Nationals next week!

My first USA Cycling Masters Nationals! Wow what a fun, hard, week full of learning and meeting extraordinary women in cycling! 🚴🏻‍♀️
Spent two days driving down to Georgia with @dwindally before her TT on Thursday (and was thankful I decided to opt out of that race as I had not been on a TT bike since 2022 at USA Triathlon Aquabike Nationals).

Saturday morning was the women’s road race with our field (45-54) leaving about 1 min after the baby masters. Leah, Laura and Trixi set a blistering pace with Trish (eventual winner) and I in a break that caught the first wave on the second half of the first of 3 loops. A few attacks were attempted once we merged but nothing stuck. At the end of the 3rd climb on lap 2 at the last neutral feed I was badly positioned in the back and got caught up in feeding commotion and dropped bottles- it was enough to loose a wheel while on my limit and the group went off without me. 🥵 So I caught my breath and joined the chase group with some younger riders and one more in my age group. We took it a little too easy and on the last 1/2 of the last lap the next chase group full of strong women in my age group caught us. A fierce attack by Pam with about 3k to go left me chasing more than I wanted before the last climb. Luckily had enough to make the pass on the climb and get over the finish line in 4th for AG.
Huge thanks to my family and my coach @adam.radford123, my team @fc_racingteam, and @velocioapparel for always looking good.
