Learning in health administration doesn’t stop in the classroom!

On Saturday morning, our MHA students teamed up with @ache_setc to volunteer at @mcfoodbank ! Working alongside local healthcare professionals, our Aggies packaged rice and beans for families facing food insecurity.

ā€œIt was a great opportunity to witness and participate in one of the many aspects of community health outreach, and live out the servant leadership we discuss in our program.ā€ – Olivia Smith, MHA Class of 2028

Thank you to ACHE-SETC for this meaningful opportunity and to the Montgomery County Food Bank for their work serving local families. We are so proud of our students for leading with servant hearts, in the classroom and in the community. šŸ’› taken in Montgomery County Food Bank by @mhatamu

Our second-year students are back from their summer practicums and had the opportunity to share their experiences and practicum projects last Friday! šŸŽ“

This summer, our students completed 35 practicums across 27 healthcare organizations in 22 cities — with placements stretching from Roseburg, Oregon, to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Tampa, Florida!

From food services and ambulatory services to physician organizations and ACOs, our students gained truly vast and varied experiences across every corner of the healthcare industry.

A huge thank-you to the incredible preceptors and host organizations who welcomed our students this summer, invested in their growth, and provided hands-on experiences in healthcare leadership. We are also grateful to everyone who joined us and took the time to listen, ask questions, and support our students as they shared their work.

We are so proud of all our students and the work they accomplished this summer! šŸ‘šŸ¼ taken in Texas A&M School of Public Health by @mhatamu

Our first-year students presented their first case study of the program this week, in Mr. Robinson’s Health Systems Management course.

The case: a community hospital facing financial pressure, leadership transition, and a patient safety incident.

Each group developed and presented their own path forward. It was an impressive start, tackling such a layered, real-world scenario right out of the gate! taken in Texas A&M School of Public Health by @mhatamu

šŸŽ‰ It’s Takeover Thursday! Today we’re joining Skylar Dierschke at Aviva Health in Roseburg, Oregon.

Aviva Health is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) providing primary medical, dental, and behavioral health services across 10 locations in Douglas County. Serving the community since 1991, Aviva Health provided over 72,000 patient visits in 2025.

Skylar works closely with Vanessa Moser, Chief of Staff, and fellow interns Madison Juett (BYU) and Madeline Gibbs (OSU) in the Administration Department, focusing primarily on Aviva’s organizational structure across all departments.

Her current project includes collaborating with fellow intern Madison Juett on a recommended organizational chart, developing an assessment tool to conduct cross-departmental evaluations and help executive leadership better support each department. Another project Skylar has contributed to is analyzing patient data to prepare for upcoming changes to Medicaid eligibility.

One skill she is putting to work from the MHA program is analysis of reporting hierarchies from Health Systems Management with Professor Robinson and data analysis from Managerial Statistics with Dr. CoĢ‚té.

Other experiences include visits with the local Coordinated Care Organization and community partners, executive meetings including the Admin Council and Board of Directors, RHTP grant research, Medicaid H.R. 1 Webinars, a site visit to Aviva’s Child Advocacy Center, and observation of behavioral health and dental workflows.

We are so proud of Skylar for taking her TAMU MHA training all the way to the Pacific Northwest and making an impact at Aviva Health! šŸ‘ taken in Aviva Health by @mhatamu

šŸŽ‰ It’s Takeover Tuesday! Today we’re heading to Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX, with Thanh Le.

Texas Children’s is one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive pediatric and women’s healthcare organizations. Established in 1954, the system has grown to four hospital campuses and 80+ locations across Texas, consistently ranking among the nation’s leading children’s hospitals.

Thanh works closely with his preceptor, Natalie Chipinski, fellow intern Nhu Lam, and the Strategic Access Operations team. As a team, they support initiatives across patient access, ambulatory operations, process improvement, and the patient and provider experience.

His projects this summer have included an Adaptive Scheduling AI Model Pilot, physician onboarding standardization across the Department of Surgery, a Press Ganey data audit, an OR turnover time improvement project, a Behavioral Health Virtual Urgent Care proposal, and data investigations across multiple service lines.

A key skill from the TAMU MHA program he’s been putting to work is using data to drive operational decision-making, drawing on PHPM 602 and PHPM 617 with Dr. CoĢ‚té. His practicum has challenged him to think critically about how data, technology, workflows, and stakeholder perspectives come together to support meaningful improvement.

Other experiences have included Q&As with executives and directors, AI scheduling pilot demonstrations, Patient Experience rounds, NICU and Emergency Center tours, mock interviews, and an executive-led organization-wide implementation kickoff.

One of Thanh’s favorite moments so far was running into former Texas Children’s President and CEO Mark Wallace on just his third day!

We are so proud of Thanh and the incredible contributions he is making at Texas Children’s Hospital this summer! šŸ‘ taken in Texas Children's by @mhatamu

šŸŽ‰ It’s Takeover Tuesday! Today, we’re joining Fletcher Reyna at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB Health) in Galveston, Texas.

Established in 1891 as Texas’ first academic health center, UTMB Health is a comprehensive academic health system with four hospital campuses serving communities throughout the Texas Gulf Coast region, five health sciences schools, a Level I Trauma Center, and a nationally recognized research enterprise.

Fletcher worked closely with his preceptors, Sydney Caperton and Damon Vance, in the Service Line Operations Department, focusing primarily on UTMB’s infusion, bariatric, and orthopedic service lines. His main project involves supporting strategic planning for the expansion of infusion services across UTMB’s four campuses, including evaluating patient volumes, market demand, operational capacity, and regional access as the system works to increase its systemwide capacity. He also contributed to broader initiatives supporting the development of a comprehensive cancer-care service line.

Fletcher consistently pulled concepts from Professor Robinson’s Health Systems Management course, Professor Diaz’s Strategic Planning and Marketing course, and Professor Alexander’s Project Management course.

Other experiences this summer have included supporting Joint Commission survey readiness for the Total Joint Program at UTMB’s League City Campus, which successfully achieved Basic Certification; Health System Quality Council, Regional Campuses Monthly Operating Reviews, Weekly Service Line Huddles, and a weekly Continuous Improvement & Project Management course.

We’re so proud of Fletcher and the meaningful work he’s been a part of at UTMB Health! šŸ‘ taken in UTMB Health by @mhatamu

šŸŽ‰ It’s Takeover Thursday! Today we’re joining Rachel Pittman at UT MD Anderson in Houston, Texas.

UT MD Anderson, established in 1941, is one of the nation’s leading cancer centers, with more than 700 inpatient beds and an extensive network of outpatient clinics. Dedicated to eliminating cancer, UT MD Anderson is internationally recognized for its excellence in patient care, research, education, and prevention.

Rachel works closely with Kathleen De Beer and Dr. Jessica Hwang on a Lifestyle Medicine project within the Department of General Internal Medicine. Her primary project has been building a REDCap survey assessment platform to administer patient assessments and organize supporting program information, as well as writing patient education content and reviewing the processes and workflows that support the program.

Another area of Rachel’s work has focused on reviewing the processes and workflows that support the program, including process maps of the patient journey from referral through follow-up, and workflows for how clinicians conduct the Lifestyle Medicine consultation.

The Texas A&M MHA program has provided Rachel with key healthcare foundations through courses such as Health Systems Management with Professor Robinson, Quality and Process Improvement with Dr. CoĢ‚té, and Project Management with Dr. Alexander.

Other experiences throughout Rachel’s practicum have included attending the Meyers Institute for Oncology Nursing’s Innovation Immersion Experience, serving as a judge for MD Anderson’s CATALYST Summer Training Program, and participating in the Patient Survey Informatics Committee (PSIC) to support integration of the Lifestyle Medicine patient survey into Epic.

Throughout her time at MD Anderson, Rachel has seen the organization’s mission to eliminate cancer truly embodied in every interaction, from the dedication of the people she has worked with to the collaboration and innovation she has witnessed across the institution.

We are so proud of Rachel and the amazing work she is doing at UT MD Anderson! šŸ‘ by @mhatamu
