a sister buddy read? 10/10, would recommend. ๐ŸŽ€๐Ÿ“š

my sister ( @j.nicole_luna ) and i recently did our very first buddy read with activities, and honestly, i had SO much fun! we live apart ( which i absolutely hate, btw ), so the original plan was to do everything separately and share our resultsโ€ฆ only for me to end up visiting her and doing most of it together. even better, honestly. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿป

we started with character fancasts, made moodboards ( and discovered that we can read the same story but picture it so differently! ), imagined what their instagram profiles would look like, created character sheets, picked songs for potential movie scenes, and even snooped around their imaginary search histories. i LOVED seeing how our little bookish brains worked!

now iโ€™m already looking forward to our next buddy read. ๐Ÿฅน

have you ever done a buddy read with your sister or a friend? and which of these activities would you try first? also . . . which activity would you recommend us for our following buddy read? tell me everything in the comments! ๐Ÿ’Œ by @mhatesithere

Soโ€ฆ the show is over, and I really enjoyed it. And no, Iโ€™m not here to compare the movie, the series, and the book; for me each one speaks its own language, yet they all carry the same beautiful message.

Thereโ€™s something almost ironic about this story: it feels deeply empowering, yet Tita and Pedroโ€™s love story is . . . honestly infuriating. Pedro is, quite literally, what The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived would describe; while on the other hand, we have Doctor Brown . . . and the contrast says everything.

Itโ€™s such a well-known ( I would also dare to say classic ) story, and yet I feel like I havenโ€™t seen nearly enough people talking about it lately, neither here in Mexico nor internationally.

Now, the storytelling itself? I loved it. The way Laura Esquivel knits the narrative through recipes is just genius. It ties emotion, memory, and Mexican culinary tradition into something that feels intimate and magical at the same time.

Going back to the โ€œlove storyโ€. . . I must say is deeply toxic. And it hurts, because this book could have been even more powerful with a male character truly worth rooting for. I literally despise Pedro so much.

Still, itโ€™s a story that stays with you. One that makes you feel, reflect, and maybe even rage a little.
Iโ€™d love to know: have you read Como Agua para Chocolate / Like Water for Chocolate? Or maybe watched the movie or the series? Letโ€™s talk about it!! taken in BOOKSTA by @mhatesithere

First of all โ€” HAPPY @gdtreal โ€˜s FRANKENSTEIN RELEASE DAY! ๐Ÿ–คโšก

I have to confessโ€ฆ I decided to read ( re-read? ) Frankenstein because of Guillermo del Toroโ€™s adaptation. I went in expecting a good story and ended up finding a masterpiece.

Nowadays, itโ€™s common for people to empathise with the Creature, but for me, it went even deeper. I saw reflections of my own relationship with my father figure.

I fell completely in love with this story, not just for its gothic beauty, but for what it represents. If you ask me, itโ€™s about guilt, redemption, love, fatherhoodโ€ฆ and the quiet weight of being the firstborn.

That last part might sound odd, but as an eldest daughter, I couldnโ€™t help but see pieces of myself in the Creature; the burden of expectations, the loneliness, the need to be seen and loved for who you are.

To me, Frankenstein isnโ€™t just about horror or imagination, or how society reacts to what it doesnโ€™t understand. Itโ€™s also a mirror, one that reflects our relationships with our parents. Even those who had a good father figure can read it and realize just how lucky they were.

As a fellow Mexican, I feel so proud of Guillermo del Toro and the way heโ€™s reimagined this classic. Itโ€™s breathtaking to see his vision come alive and share it with the world.

So tell me . . . have you seen the movie yet? What did you think? And if youโ€™ve read the book, how did it make you feel? ๐Ÿ’ญ taken in BOOKSTA by @mhatesithere

Iโ€™m so excited to finally share this little haul with you! ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡นโœจ

My sister ( @j.nicole_luna ) recently came back from Italy and brought me the sweetest souvenirs; and honestly, Iโ€™m still not over how cute everything is. From the details to the meaning of each thing, everything just screams Italian charm and sisterโ€™s love.

I couldnโ€™t keep all this joy to myself, so here it is! My absolute favorite? The bag, of course. Itโ€™s giving main character wandering through Rome energy, and Iโ€™m obsessed.

โšก๏ธBook recommendations based on your favourite Thunderbolt* character !!!!

If youโ€™re anything like me and canโ€™t stop thinking about Thunderbolts*, youโ€™re in the right place. I matched each characterโ€”from Bucky to Bobโ€”with a book I truly believe theyโ€™d vibe with (or at least feel emotionally attacked by).

These are personal picks, of course, so Iโ€™d LOVE to know: do you agree? Or which books would you hand them instead

Genre: romance novel nโ€™ humor

This book delivered exactly what it promisedโ€”and it did so in the softest, sweetest way. The plot felt like one of those classic, comforting rom-coms we all not so secretly love. Itโ€™s pure sweetness with just the right sprinkle of angst to keep things interesting.

That said, I have to admit I struggled to connect with Daisy. She had this childlike energy that, at times, made it hard for me to really relate to her or stay fully engaged, plus how blind she was with everything related to Levi exasperated me

But on the flip sideโ€ฆ Levi. God save us. He is the definition of a gentleman. Charming, respectful, subtly hilarious, and just the right amount of romantic. He absolutely carried this story for me.
If youโ€™re in the mood for something warm, a little dramatic, and full of heart, this oneโ€™s worth the read.

This has been my favorite read of the year so farโ€”hands down. Honestly, I was blown away by all the plot twists. Yes, some of them might be considered clicheฬs, but they still managed to catch me completely off guard.

The ending? Absolutely heart-wrenching. Itโ€™s been over a month since I finished it, and I still feel like a piece of me was taken with it.

What I loved the most was how the characters felt simple on the surface, yet carried so much complexity beneath. That balance made them incredibly compelling. There was also a certain charm in going into the story almost blindโ€”not knowing what to expect made the journey even more powerful.

If youโ€™re into emotionally gripping reads with layered characters and unexpected turns, please pick this one up. I recommend it so much! taken in BOOKSTA by @mhatesithere

Genre: horror nโ€™ psychological fiction

Talking about this book feelsโ€ฆ weird. In a way, I found it compelling, but at the same time, it made me extremely uncomfortable. It explores themes like pleasure, sexual assault, feminism, death, and even cannibalismโ€”so yes, as you might guess, itโ€™s quite explicit.
This is definitely not a book for everyone. The trigger warnings are significant, and despite being a short read, I personally struggled to get through it.
On a more personal note, Iโ€™ve realized that I enjoy novels where characters interact deeply, allowing me to truly understand their lives. In this book, Dorothy recounts the stories of the people she encountered before her arrest, yet thereโ€™s little room for emotional connection. You learn about them, but you donโ€™t feel for them.
If youโ€™re looking for something dark, disturbing, and thought-provoking, this might be for you. But if, like me, you crave deeper character exploration, you might find it lacking.

Quoting what I shared on Fable: โ€œ[โ€ฆ] this book isnโ€™t meant for everyone. As someone who enjoys thrillers, I personally saw it more as a crime-police novel rather than a proper thriller.โ€

Let me be clearโ€”this isnโ€™t a hate review. The book isnโ€™t bad; itโ€™s just not for me. Itโ€™s undeniably twisted, but for a story with so many layers, the ending felt disappointingly predictable. I guessed the killer almost immediately, though Iโ€™ll admit there was one twist that did catch me off guard.

I completely understand why someone might enjoy this bookโ€”thereโ€™s definitely an audience for it. But for me, the multiple POVs (which I usually struggle with) made it harder to connect with the story.

If youโ€™re into dark, crime-heavy narratives and donโ€™t mind a bit of predictability, you might actually love this one. It just wasnโ€™t my cup of tea.
