Commission from earlier this year completed on Dharug country

Oil paint on three 20x40 gesso boards

I had the opportunity in January to spend some time with this beautiful creek that is under threat from potential nearby development on the outskirts of Sydney.

Thank you to the lovely Richard and Shauna. by @mhendo_art

Untitled, oil on board, 2026

This work became a testbed to solve a problem that arose after completing the top (horizontal) section: how can I offer a distant, panoramic image of a place without it becoming detached from the individual experience? My answer was to incorporate a vertical component that reaches down to ground and give experiential context to the otherwise lofty vista.
The resulting T shape does more than simply zooming out to a wider field of view as it (to me anyways) manages to describe the two entities in conversation; Place through the horizontal axis and its relation to the Person within it through the vertical axis.
This painting is based off images and experience in Wiradjuri country.

‘As if we are not part of her’

I had the opportunity to show these works in @captchacollective ‘s debut show at @flowstudios88 earlier this month.
I just want to thank all the amazing people who brought the show together, and for everyone for coming!

A few works hung for another critique this week - these preliminary works are really about me figuring out how to depict the Australian bush with empathy

Series of ‘abstracted’ landscapes hung for critique at NAS - I wanted these works to break down what a natural landscape is, interrogating the feelings of the sublime and vastness that keeps me coming back to it.

Two paintings from my time down the south coast and the scenery that inspired them - I definitely tried to channel some #claricebeckett on that last one
