I said goodbye to my dad Tuesday night while holding his hand through his last breath.

I thought we’d have so much more time. Time for one more phone call or text, one more batch of the best macaroni and cheese, one more Pizza King lunch, one more conversation about the latest episode of Survivor, one more family story, one more visit with the grandpups, one more project with just the right set of tools. But that’s just not how it works… and I’ll forever cherish every one of the moments we did share.

We had our ups and downs early in my life, but none of that mattered in the end. Because when I needed him most, Dad showed up. I couldn’t have asked for a better father-son relationship as adults. He never wanted anything from me other than to know I was healthy and happy.
