This was definitely one of the most memorable“WTF!?“ moments in my life

Last Saturday I was in Liguria, a 3.5 hours drive from home, for a macro trip with @shunkanature and @marco_colombo_photography
End of the walk, we were going back to our cars, talking about bugs, when I told them: there this jumping spider I’ve been looking for YEARS, I really wish I could find it one day. It’s Saitis barbipes

And then, literally 2 minutes later, it was there, in front of me, on a plant
I was like 👁️👁️ PANIC!

I felt like seeing a mythical creature, although only 5mm in size, my heart pounding like crazy, and I immediately knew it wouldn’t let me get a good shot without a fight!

It ran all over the plant, under the leaves, jumping here and there, and then it hopped off the plant - and disappeared 😱

It was at that moment that @marco_colombo_photography saved me from a heart attack and found the spider again amongst the dead leaves on the ground

After some more fighting and dozens of out of focus shots I shouted: I think I have it! 😱
A quick look at the gallery and -YES!- look at those extraordinary green eyes
I nailed a 2 shots stack
Finally, I made it

Second post from the micro-trip to Liguria with @shunkanature and @marco_colombo_photography

I found this, never before seen, gorgeous but tiny metallic green Weevil, likely in the family Attelabidae. Not sure what species it is, any help is appreciated

After 4 years of arthropod photography and almost 2000 recorded species it’s very hard for me to find species that I’ve never seen in my area, so going to new places and finding new stuff is such a pleasant surprise for me

Btw, can you guess if this is a single shot or a stack? taken in Liguria, Italy by @mhmacroworld

My first encounter with Arctosa cinerea
This medium sized 🐺 Wolf spider (~15mm) lives on sandy beaches of rivers and lakes where it can camouflage and wander during daylight

A curious characteristic of this species are the curly hair on top and on the sides of its cephalothorax, so cool 🩶

I frigg1n hat3 making Reels 🤬

But since no Reels = no reach, I have no choice but keep doing this sh*t
Last week I didn’t make one and my reach crashed 80% in 2 days
Actually I kind of hat3 social networks and how they work in general
I’m happy I have a job and don’t need to rely on these stuff to make a living. I make absolute zero mon3y from all of this, I just like to share my works, but what’s the point if my posts get shown to barely 2% of my followers? And I get punished for skipping a week?

End of the rant

I was quite surprised by the results of the survey I did yesterday asking you if you wanted to see a jumping spider close-up or a long-jawed spider wide angle shot as my next post
I thought jumping spiders and especially close-ups of them were everyone’s favorites
It turns out 3/4 voted for the wide angle of a long-jawed spider

Why is it? 🤔

Anyway, here’s the shot you wanted, I hope you won’t be disappointed!
I personally really like the feel of the shot, the calmness of the forest in the morning with its inhabitants about to wake up

Not the coolest beetle but one that I’ve been chasing for a long time 🌘
Not because it’s rare (it’s actually pretty common), but because this species just never ever stops moving! This is the first time I finally managed to get a stack of it!

Helops caeruleus is a darkling beetle, only active at night
I’m always impressed by its deep blue and purple hues

On the top 💚
Sharing this shot which is one of my favorites ever
The wide angle makes the honeybee look like it’s on the top of a huge forest
In reality it’s just a rosemary shrub

Something I always forget to do is to play more with the lighting

Luckily I did some testing when I was in Mauritius a few months ago. I was happy to find lots of these big Huntsman on the vegetation around my hotel at night, I believe they’re the same species I saw in Singapore/Malaysia last year, Heteropoda venatoria (corrections are welcome)

These big spidies are super chill, perfect chance to try some off-camera flash lighting

In the first three photos it’s the same subject:
N.1 the flash was above, almost behind it
N.2 the flash was on the left
N.3 the flash was below the camera

Notice how the whole scene changes due to different light direction
Which photo do you like the most?

Bonus shot: N.4 is a different specimen, shot with on camera flash and wide angle setup taken in Mauritius by @mhmacroworld

Beauty lies in the details ✨

So true. I’m so grateful to have discovered macro photography 4 years ago, otherwise I would have missed the incredible wonder that is hidden in this parallel world

What do you feel when you see photos like these?
And can you guess what insect is this?

Technical info:
Camera @sonyalpha
Lens @venuslaowa
Flash @godox_global
These two shots are my most detailed ones up to date, ~40 frames the first and ~50 the second, both at f5.6

Ps: @macroflodzl posted a reel without finger pointing, what a disappointment. I’m here to make up for it, you’re welcome bro 😎
