Currently taking suggestions for new career paths😪 #otisumi #career by @mhy_dah
Damilare kuku's stories are fast paced , and engaging; that's why she gets me every time. She has you piqued from the first sentence, and your attention remains with her till the very end. No boring chapters whatsoever! I'll post a proper review when I'm done or not😹🤭 #reader #africanauthor #eggshells by @mhy_dah
Slide one: A Good Girl's guide to murder by Holly Jackson I started reading it in September 2024. I read a few chapters and abandoned it. I picked it up again in January and found myself in Little Kilton; a town with two bedrooms that seemed to be frozen in time. A dead son. A dead daughter. It appeared everyone was learning to live with the tragedy of their realities until pippa came knocking on their doors with questions. Questions that would go on to bring about the death of a dear member of her family and almost hers. She drew closer to the truth with every pin and red string on her board , every new name on her persons of interest list, and a lot of people did not appreciate that. Pip transformed what was meant to be a school project into a venture that ended with 4 people in handcuffs and scars , that would stay with her forever. Slide 2: Good Girl, bad blood (Book 2) The poor girl was trying to live a normal life, and maybe she would've if DI Hawkings would have done the job he was paid to do! He didn't, and dire circumstances led pip towards another case. Unfortunately, this one would end with a gun in her chest and blood on her hands. Slide 3: As Good As Dead (Book 3) " who's going to look for you when you're the one who goes missing ". There's a r*pist on the loose, she's on the verge of addiction and like her life isn't rosy enough, there's a serial killer leaving decapitated pigeons in her home. .... The first book was a solid 8, the second one was a 6 and by the time I was reading the third one, I was already tired😪. I loved it oo,but I won't be picking up any thriller books anytime soon. I'm also going to give duologies and trilogies a break, because this one drained me. Ewoni ogun spillover? Wrap it up please ✋️😪 by @mhy_dah
THE MECHANICS OF YENAGOA BY MICHAEL AFENFIA I haven't read a book in a man's pov in quite a while, so this was..... something. When I started reading it,I thought I'd be laughing as i flipped through the pages, so imagine my surprise when we went from workshop banter and church troubles to cocaine, guns, and near death experiences! It's centred around the life of a mechanic; Ebinimi , who fancies himself a babe magnet, but when a botched rendezvous causes him to become entangled with a politician, he becomes a magnet for chaos. The storytelling was toptier, and the secrets that unravelled with the story were just as fascinating. Y'all remember " third term saga" and " the incorruptible judge" from jss2? Well, they have a vibe similar to that of the mechanics of yenagoa. It would be a nice read for secondary school kids if it didn't have the vulgar language and whatnot. The events that rounded up the tale confirmed two things: I. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. II. I was right about that cursed Reverend Ebizimor. by @mhy_dah
Slide 1: BEYOND by @aishatu_gali This was the first read of the year and it was just what I needed to get out of my reading slump. This enigma of a book started out like any other northern story; it was all cupcakes and rainbows until it wasn't. Normally, with wattpad like stories, you'd see the plot twist coming, but nothing gave this one away. It felt like a crime mystery, with all the persons of interest hiding their secrets behind careful smiles. I couldn't be alone in a room towards the end of this book😭. I felt like my every move was being monitored 💀. " people dey use knife take stab people for back, e reach Musa turn, e carry cutlass " 🥲. Na cutlass them take stab Fatimé for back! It was a great read. Slide 2 : CHOICES by Samiah Oyekan-Ahmed @booksbysamiah This is 5th book of the year actually, but I'm reviewing it now because it's in season 🌚💕 " Hanifa, I give you my word that this does not change anything between us" lies! makaryaci kawai Boda Akinola! I don't think I've ever been more proud of a yoruba character 😭, na man you be! Choices was as much a jump scare, as it was a breath of fresh air. It was unlike anything I had ever had the privilege of reading before . It wasn't unfamiliar, but the peculiarity of the picture the author painted was in the simultaneous simplicity and complexity of the plot. Her unwavering stance on tawaqqul (unshakeable trust in Allah), resonated through the pages via playful and not so playful conversations. Did it unlock new fears in me? Yes ! But I was reminded that Allah is our only constant in this world of uncertainties, and the only way we can manage to keep our sanity through our storms is by holding firmly onto Him. Trigger warning⚠️⚠️: Polygyny, divorce, emotional trauma ,cyber bullying. Slide 3: If i had to describe both books in one video, this would come the closest. #booksbooksbooks #bookstagram by @mhy_dah
