Sustainability Reporting and International Standard-Setting

On 25 September, MIBE students at the University of Pavia attended a guest seminar by Prof. Matteo Molinari, Associate Professor of Accounting at the University of Bergamo, within the Sustainable Performance Management course taught by Prof. Chiara Demartini.

Hosted at San Felice, University of Pavia, the seminar explored the evolution of sustainability reporting and its international regulatory landscape, with a focus on major standards and frameworks such as ISSB, GRI, SASB and Integrated Reporting.

Prof. Molinari also presented some of his research papers on sustainability reporting and international standard-setting, offering students an academic perspective on how standard setters and regulatory actors contribute to shaping reporting practices and corporate accountability.

The seminar concluded with a hands-on workshop, in which students analysed sustainability reports from different years and companies, critically examining their structure, materiality, use of SDGs, data and targets, external assurance, and overall credibility.

By combining academic research, international regulation and practical analysis, the seminar provided students with a deeper understanding of sustainability reporting as a key component of corporate accountability and sustainable performance management.
