Duckie Casanova is a Bronx-bred filmmaker, poet, and open format DJ with roots in Chicago. He was raised on classic hiphop and disco with deep ties to film/tv and pop culture. Duckie uses poetry as spells to set sonic scenes, breathes life into new worlds as he takes the crowd on a journey through time and space. Whether it’s cosmic disco and jazz, leftfield new wave punk, or deep, sultry house and seductive vogue beats, Duckie Casanova uses sound to promote the all encompassing nature of black music across the diaspora. Sampling is ancestral veneration and dance music is a channel for body-mind healing. Let the liberating sounds of Duckie Casanova be the elixir for your soul.

@sapphicfaggot is a DJ, sound artist, and fourth-generation Brooklynite with a long career history in Berlin. Mars’ sound is defined by propulsive, sensual and syncopated beats integrated in referential complexity with a playing style that is always fully improvised. Mars’ open format high-energy sets feature long blends of house, R&B, kuduro, hard drum, mahraganat, deconstructed club, industrial, baile funk, and the unexpected. Former resident and core crew of Berlin’s legendary monthly club night BODYSNATCH (2011-2023), Mars is creator & host of Edge Case, an experimental club focused radio show on Maker Park Radio every other Friday at noon.

ashtro’s sound consists of relevant amplitudes that are characteristic of his poetic and musical identity - as a DJ he aspires to create channels for these amplitudes to pass directly from his soul to space with seldom variation in pitch. Within spaces to come, expect deep and slutty house, dreamy and glitchy R&B, afro-Caribbean riddim, and other various blacktronik sounds that have shaped and will shape the afrofuture. He is a regular guest on Edge Case at Maker Park Radio, where his poetic and rhythmic articulations have been both broadcast and archived for replay.

🫀✨Saturday 10/10
📍SUNSET PARK, BROOKLYN
⏰ 2PM-10PM

saturator is eight hours of nonstop club style sets from four underground NYC DJs.

In an homage to uniquely New Yorkian rave culture, DJs duckie casanova, Mars Dietz a.k.a. Sapphic F████, ashtroboi, and Michael Thomas will bring you on a deep dive through a bricolage of bass-forward genres.

saturator celebrates the launch of Positive Deviance’s campaign to sustain the next chapter of public-health forward clean-air cultural programming.

* saturator takes place in a wheelchair-accessible warehouse garage space and theater stripped down to bare walls on the industrial south Brooklyn waterfront.

* Phone lenses will be stickered at the door with a no phones on the dancefloor policy.

*spectacle << sweat.

* situated in the Pandemicene - masks are required at all times inside the venue, with SIP valves available for drinking. Multiple HEPA purifiers will be running.

* A hybrid format for audio only remote attendance.

*capacity cap at the venue frees up space for movement and keeps the crowd committed.

We’re building a home.

Almost one year ago, Positive Deviance NYC began with a simple refusal: we would not accept that participating in public life had to mean giving up access and care.

14 events.
700+ attendees.

Concerts, dance parties, listening sessions, author talks, game nights: every gathering was mask-positive.

Every event taught us that folks want to

dance
learn
celebrate
create
organize
work
rest
and be together

— without explaining why clean air matters or apologizing for wearing a mask.

But we also learned how hard this is without a home of our own.

Every single event means rebuilding from scratch: finding an accessible venue, negotiating health protocols, hauling HEPA purifiers and Far-UVC equipment, and trying to build access into rooms that were never designed with us in mind.

So as we reach our one year anniversary, we’re exploring something permanent:

a COVID-conscious space of our own -
right here in NYC.

A space with:

HEPA filtration and Far-UVC built into the room from day 1.

Where high-quality masks are the norm.

A home and social club for classes, co-working, art, nightlife, family programming, and rest.

A place folks can host their own events without reinventing clean-air protocols.

A worker-owned cooperative rooted in care.

As we approach funders and grant makers, we’d like to show them how needed these spaces are.

That’s where we’d appreciate your help.

Tell us what a COVID-conscious space in NYC would make possible - for you, your family, your art, your health, your career.

A few sentences is plenty.

And if one of our gatherings ever brought you joy, relief, or connection, we’d love to hear that too.

This year showed us we’re already building the future we need.

We’re excited about the road ahead.

With love,

Michael + Marcel

Some clips from last month's Edge Case with special guests Positive Deviance @positivedeviancenyc with @mic_wave (pictured) and @marcelrosasalas (beamed in). Michael gave a fantastic DJ set on the aux 🤯 and the three of us chatted about their amazing events programming work and cultural vision. Our tech setup gatekept Michael's input on the convo, so we're gonna have to do at least a round 2 this year because their message is not one to miss! Till then I'm enjoying these tasty clips and looking forward to more 🤭 taken in MakerPark Radio - makerparkradio.nyc by @mic_wave

📡Whether you’re an old pro or getting back into it, here’s a quick refresher on some masking best practices (gold chain optional).

1) Pre-molding the nose bridge with both hands.

2) Adjusting the respirator so that it fits snug above the nose and below the chin.

3) Checking the seal by taking a few breaths and blowing out to make sure no air leaks.

We require and provide high quality respirators at all our events including this Sunday 4/12 at @gabriela90.nyc featuring all vinyl sets by @koolboblove and @djtaranyc

Additional clean air support courtesy of Far UVC, CO2 monitoring, ventilation, and portable HEPA air purifiers.

I'm verrrry looking forward to this Friday's Edge Case, when I have the honor of hosting Positive Deviance @positivedeviancenyc for some music & conversation. Positive Deviance is a two person team @marcelrosasalas and @mic_wave consistently putting out high quality, accessible live programming in & around NYC that sows a new future for culture by rejecting the false choice between connection and wellbeing. In addition to putting on impeccably curated mask-required events across boroughs, Positive Deviance commissions thoughful conversations and original writing for their online magazine, assembles mixtapes, designs & sells merch, and supports local artists with open rehearsals... among other things! Can't wait for the abundance of topics, subjects, matters & things to get into while we listen to good music 😈. TUNE IN LIVE this FRIDAY from 12:00-14:00 EST on Maker Park Radio @makerparkradio at makerparkradio.nyc. A poster featuring two Black and Brown skinned people looking into the camera, on the left, Marcel Rosa-Salas, standing with one hand on the shoulder of Michael Thompson, who is sitting on a stool. In front of them, a logo in bright yellow says "Edge Case" though the font is distorted and hardly legible, featuring mainly as a graphic. Below, in plain black text with a slightly pixelated font over a white background, text says "Edge Case 003: ft. Positive Deviance, March 27th • 12:00 - 14:00 EST @ MakerParkRadio.nyc by @mic_wave
