I didn't plan to spend nearly a week in the Bella Coola valley to finish my ride. I planned to ride over high passes of the South Chilcotins mountains before early snow diverted me to lower elevations where I became stuck due to a cancelled ferry.

But, the whole appeal of this sort of trip is, for me, in the uncertainty. If the outcome was already known then it wouldn't scratch my itch for adventure. Ending up stranded in Bella Coola for days was evidently one possible outcome of this uncertainty, and by embracing it with eager curiosity I had an unforgettable time. Absent any hurry, I ended up falling into deep conversations with strangers who have left an imprint.

On the flight to Terrace to start this trip, I finished Grant Lawrence's history/memoir of Desolation Sound, 'Adventures in Solitude', where he concludes the book with a visit to an old hermit/philosopher and leaves us with the mantra "𝘢𝘮𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘵𝘪" — love your fate. Sixteen days later, as I finally boarded a ferry to leave Bella Coola, feeling oddly moved and changed, this mantra rang in my head.

The only problem is that the itch is even stronger, now that I'm back home and have a business to run.

Oh right...everything is back in stock at Mica! taken in Bella Coola Valley by @micacycles

Checking in from Nimpo Lake after 10 days out. Been thriving all day and freezing most nights.

Another ~10-day stint to go if this fresh snow doesn't block the passes. by @micacycles

SHOP CLOSURE:
I'm bugging out for a few weeks of BC backcountry riding. Back around Oct 7th.

Here's my 32/29 Esker Japhy set up for remote riding.
» I swapped in a shorter rigid fork and 32" front wheel to maintain geometry with some extra comfy bigwheelin' rollover.
» front and rear racks
» space for 7-8 days of food
» hopefully carrying everything I need to flourish out in the bush by @micacycles

It's time for all you little boys with tight modern mullets to buck up and grow something truly majestic.

You can take a suspension corrected 29er and turn it into a non-suspension corrected 32/29 super mullet if you feel like it. by @micacycles

Big Collab Energy - the @micacycles Rat Tail is now available at Rogue Panda! We're stoked to help this rack reach more riders, with tariffs already included in the purchase price for US-based customers.

If you're not already familiar, the Rat Tail is a super lightweight, versatile rack that will fit on any rigid or hard tail bike. It also just so happens to be the perfect match for the upcoming Elden Rack Top Harness - coming later this month! by @micacycles

Found these clips from when I made my first cargo cages 3 years ago! Back in the glory days of having full access to a fab shop. They're made a little more efficiently in a production shop in Ontario now, but the design really hasn't changed much. Sometimes good enough is good enough. by @micacycles

RAT TAIL RESTOCK!

One of many reasons that I was out of stock for so long is that I'm all grown up and got molds made for all the lil plastic bits. Injection molding also opens up tens of thousands of polymer options, so now they're stronger, tougher, more stylish, better in bed, etc.

Thanks to Cam @darkhorse_innovations for engineering support! by @micacycles
