I wanted to share more on my “why” as a photographer and filmmaker. I am especially compelled in my work to create out of purpose and deeper meaning. The art and medium are just tools and vehicles to communicate deeper longings of the heart. And if I’m honest, I’ve always been about this. It’s really the one thing that I keep coming back to and question I’m left with is “why do I create?”Of course not all of my work is going to hold immense deep Truths but I hope that as I grow creatively, I’ll be able to slowly close the gap between my creative skills and deep faith convictions.My goal is to build a community of creatives who create with purpose. There’s something about the practice of stillness that has invited me into a space of curious reflection. Usually my mind is racing like the speed of light and when I sit in the quietness my mind and my heart is a bit jolted. At first I don’t know what to do or what to feel. I can no longer strive to be more valuable or worthy because I’m not producing anything. I don’t feel productive. But isn’t that one of the greatest lies we could believe about ourselves? That our worth is based on what we can do and even deeper, our character. The trap is that we equivalate our value with how good we are. Good character = worthiness of being loved. And we experience this to be true day and day out. We are rewarded for it.That is conditional love. Here’s the thing.Detaching our worth from our pursuit of good character does not mean we stop pursuing good character. It does not mean that we stop working hard.It just means that we live a life for God. We love because He first loved us.So He loves us regardless of our good works and “good” character. Our worthiness does not come from our good character.So what does this mean?It means that we must always remind ourselves and choose to believe in God’s love for us first. To know and believe of our worthiness that is found in Christ alone.Living from His love means that we love out of an overflow of His love for us. The fruit of abiding in Christ is “good” Godly character. Yeah I got all of that from sitting in the stillness…so I guess it’s helping me 😅 Anyways, I hope this encourages you to practice stillness for yourself. Lean into the discomfort that it may bring, don’t try to fight it. Instead, be curious about it. Rovinj, Croatia, Summer 2025. 🎞️ Storytime! The funny thing was that Croatia wasn’t even part of the plan.We were just set on Slovenia. But you know how it goes… plans change, and sometimes the last-minute pivots end up being the ones you remember most. Somehow we ended up making our way down to this little coastal town called Rovinj. One of the best decisions of the trip.The Mediterranean gets me every single time. The pace is slower, the water is impossibly clear, and the seafood is fresh in a way that makes you never want to eat it anywhere else. Just my kind of place.One day was nowhere near enough. Hoping to come back sometime soon!If Croatia isn’t on your list yet — 1000% recommend!Ever ended up somewhere totally by accident and had it completely blow your mind? Joshua Tree, Spring 2026. 📍 Rarely do I ever just post a single frame but I felt that this one deserved the space to be appreciated. I’m trying to be better at focusing on the making of a photo and not just blitzing through them. Taking in the moment to reflect and take in the awe of beauty. Slovenia Summer Series | Ep. 3 “An Afternoon In Piran” 🎞️ The coastal city of Piran was truly remarkable. I noticed the majority of people we saw were just locals and European tourists, a little more refreshing than your classic overcrowded tourist site. A slowed down way of living by the sea. You would never know that you were just across the water from Venice, Italy. The Mediterranean coast will always have a place in my heart, salty air, grilled seafood, warm and welcoming people, and a slower pace of life that deeply contrasts the fast paced nature of your classic American hustle culture. Cherry blossoms in Seattle, Spring 2026. 🌸 UW quad is always a go to for the spring. Wild cherry blossoms, and I love how the moss compliments them so much. So much character and age in these trees. My mom remembers when she would study for her classes under these trees, can’t wait to take my kids here one day. ☺️Have y’all seen the blossoms in Seattle before? Slovenia Summer Series | Ep. 2 “Day to Night in Ljubljana” 🎞️ Absolutely loved walking around the beautiful capital of Slovenia, Ljubljana. Finally figured out to say it halfway through the trip 😅 From the walkable, car-free city center, to the idyllic architecture, to the peaceful river running through the city, it easily became one of my favorite European cities I’ve visited. Revisiting these scenes has revitalized my passion for creating and I cannot wait to continue to share the rest of the series with you all. 🫶🏼👏🏼Which scene is your favorite? ☺️ by @micahrchen
