Today was special. When I was a kid I loved horses, my Dad took me to local stable in 1990 where I could clean 5 stalls for 1 basic lesson. Sometimes I’d get lucky enough to exercise ride other people’s horses … but having horses and taking real lessons wasn’t a reality for my family. Then I had to get a job, like most teenagers do and life happens and the years slip by. Between jobs, husband, kids and all the responsibilities of adulthood - time just kept slipping by. When I was in my mid 30’s I bought a house with a few acres. I rescued a horse that wasn’t rideable (or touchable) and took a few years to be grateful to own a horse and a home and really just enjoyed bonding with her - lots of grooming - but not really any riding. I still had my childhood fantasy’s but work and life got in the way for 10 more years. I got a bigger piece of property 4 years ago … knowing someday I’d make that dream come true. So I finally bought a horse at 45 - and started taking lessons 6 months ago - started jumping about a month ago - and built my own arena in my yard … Today was my first time riding in it and going over more then 3 jumps in a row … I did 7!!! Give me some grace as I just started learning and I have the rest of my life to get it figured out, but this is something that’s been on my vision board since I was a kid. Oh and that rescue horse is 32 now … happy as a clam and I can see her from my bedroom window living the good life next to my new horse in a huge pasture. I am beyond grateful … I know my dad is watching down from heaven and is super proud that I didn’t give up - even though I had a 30 + year gap. by @mich.g.miller
