I'm a bass player and composer. Although I love playing in groups, I have a real passion for solo bass music.

POSTS STORIES REELS

My hero of heroes is teaching inside Bass Club tomorrow.

@michael_manring

If you've ever heard him play solo bass...

You know nobody else on earth sounds like that.

Earlier this year I got to play with him in Chicago.

And then I got to sit and listen to him talk about bass and music.

I left wanting to practice every second.

I'm still practicing like that.

Tomorrow night he's teaching a live class inside Bass Club.

You'll be in the room with him.

And you can ask him the thing you've always wanted to ask him.

The first rule of Bass Club is we talk about it.

So tag a bass player who needs to be there.

Your ticket is in the pinned comment.

See you in The Ring. by @michael_manring

It was so lovely to get to play a couple of gigs with my old friend John Gorka last week. He’s just the best. by @michael_manring

Now available on your favorite streaming platform! I got to do a new version of a piece from my first album called “Welcoming” with my old bandmates from our group, Montreux, as part of the new “A Winter’s Solstice Celebration.” by @michael_manring

50 YEARS OF WINDHAM HILL. ONE EXTRAORDINARY DAY.

In 1976, @williamackermanguitar pressed a few hundred copies of a solo guitar record for friends. What followed was a label that defined a sound—and became the soundtrack for generations of listeners.

November 1 at @thefreightberkeley , many of the artists who created that music come together on one stage for the first time in decades:

Will Ackerman • @lizstoryofficial • @alexdegrassiguitar • @barbarahigbie • @darolangerfiddler • @michael_manring • Scott Cossu • Fred Simon • Ira Stein

The celebration begins at 10AM, with performances and conversations featuring the artists, former @windhamhillofficial staff, writers and filmmakers—plus rarely seen @michaelhedges_official footage and material from A Quiet Revolution @windhamhillfilm , the forthcoming documentary about Windham Hill.

Then at 7PM, the anniversary concert.

Fifty years of music. One remarkable reunion.

All-Day Premium Passes and concert-only tickets are available.

Michael Manring changed what people thought was possible on a bass.

Now you have the chance to learn directly from him.

Widely regarded as the world’s leading solo bassist, Michael studied with Jaco Pastorius, became a longtime collaborator of Michael Hedges, and took the electric bass to a level people didn't know was possible.

On November 3rd at 7:30 PM Eastern, he’s teaching a LIVE Zoom workshop for Bass Club.

And you’re invited.

These weekly Zoom workshops are usually just for our Bass Club members.

But we wanted to open this one up so you to have the opportunity to learn from a virtuoso bass player like Michael Manring.

During the closing Q&A, you’ll have the opportunity to ask Michael any question you have about bass directly.

You’ll get the replay, too, so you rewatch this extraordinary event anytime you want.

While we’re talking Montreux…

Here’s Montreux performing “To Be,” composed by @barbarahigbie and originally featured on the band’s 1987 album Sign Language.

Featuring Higbie, @mikemarshall.official , @darolangerfiddler and @michael_manring , this performance appeared on the 1999 DVD Solace: A @windhamhillofficial Collection.

And while you’re here, be sure to stream Let Them Say—just released to DSPs for the first time yesterday via @supervisiblemultimedia .

A little vintage Montreux for your weekend.

🚨 NEW TO STREAMING ALERT!

Montreux – Let Them Say (Windham Hill)
Originally released June 28, 1989

Jazz. Bluegrass. A little jamming. And four musicians who didn’t see much reason to choose between them.

Let Them Say captures the distinctive sound of Montreux, a @windhamhillofficial ensemble whose music blended American acoustic traditions with jazz and fusion.

And what a lineup: @darolangerfiddler on violin, @barbarahigbie on piano, synthesizers and vocals, @mikemarshall.official on mandolins and guitars, and @michael_manring on fretless bass, synthesizers and vocals.

The band took its name from Switzerland’s legendary @montreuxjazzfestival , where an early incarnation of the group first came together. By the late ’80s, these four players had created something unmistakably their own and very much at home on Windham Hill.
