I didn’t grow up dreaming of being a photographer. I did, however, grow up noticing.

The way light moved through a room. The colors of a sunset reflecting on water. How loud my family laughed around a table. Cool rocks and interesting feathers that always had to come home with me. Even then, I think I was trying to hold onto moments and make them more tangible.

As I’ve gotten older, I think that same noticing has turned into creating. Photography, of course. But also pottery and sewing and gardening and decorating our home and setting a table for people I love. I find so much inspiration in the world around me + I think creating has become one of the ways I process and appreciate it.

I love things that feel a little imperfect and full of character. Film grain, thrifted glassware, handmade pottery, old houses, wild gardens. I love traveling somewhere completely new just as much as I love & appreciate coming home. I love Jesus + feel closest to him when I slow down enough to notice how much beauty there is in the sweet little life he’s given me.

Somewhere along the way, a camera became the thing I reach for most often. Not just at weddings, but on camping trips and vacations, at home with Jake + our cats, around a table with friends, or anytime the light is doing something I don’t want to forget.

I think that’s what I love most about creating photographs. They’ve taught me to look a little closer at my own life, too.

So hi, I’m Michaela (Mich for short) :) photographer, former nurse, hobby queen, wife to my favorite person, lover of old + quirky things, and someone who is probably always going to be collecting little pieces of life as I go.

My film-only sessions are continually a beautiful lesson in presence. 🎞️

When there are only 36 images on a roll of film, you learn to make each one intentional. No checking the back of the camera to see if you “got the shot.” No taking hundreds of photos hoping to love one or two later.

September Light Editorial: A romantic study of the relationship between summer and autumn. Inspired by warmth, texture, and the changing light of late September.

Had the honor of working with my friend + extremely talented colleague @stangfloraldesign on another incredible project.

September Light was inspired by that fleeting moment when summer begins to turn into fall— when the landscape is still green, but the light grows warmer and deeper tones begin to emerge. The design was abundant yet grounded, pairing soft blush, butter yellow, ivory, and lavender with burgundy and chocolate brown. Garden-inspired florals, vintage details, layered linens, and trailing ribbons brought softness and movement to the open meadow.

Romantic, a little undone, and inspired by the last warmth of summer meeting the beginning of fall.
