Something I wasn’t prepared for when becoming a mom was the guilt I would feel about my first baby 🐾😭

Before Rhodes, there was Amos. My first puppy ever. The little soul who introduced me to a kind of unconditional love and loyalty I had never experienced before…. and lately, I’ve found myself grieving a chapter of our life together that I didn’t even realize was coming to an end.

I miss the life / relationship we used to have more than anything.
I miss our slow mornings. Waking up and having nowhere to be, no one immediately needing me. Just the two of us lying in bed while I gave him his “morning scratches” and cuddles.

I miss our long walks when HE got to decide which direction we went and how long HE wanted to sniff a certain spot.
I had nowhere else I needed to be — my time was HIS ❤️‍🩹

Now, mornings look like jumping out of bed to feed and change a baby. Walks require planning which usually never come from me anymore and some days the thought of managing both of them together feels more overwhelming than I have the capacity for.

And the thing is, Amos’ whole world just changed in one day, and he had absolutely no say in it. No warning it was happening. Just massive change overnight. That’s the part that breaks my heart. Since then he’s been the best boy - adjusting quietly and learning the new way our family maneuvers through this season of life.

While I’ve been experiencing the greatest love of my life becoming Rhodes’ mom, I’ve also been quietly mourning the version of myself who had all the time in the world to be Amos’ mom.
And I feel guilty even admitting that.

I know he is loved. I know he has a beautiful life. And I know that one day Rhodes will grow up loving him just as much as I do.
But right now, I miss us. I miss the little routines that I didn’t know would become memories so quickly.

I think two things can be true at once. I can be endlessly grateful for the life we have now and still miss the one we had before.

And I hope, in whatever way dogs understand love, Amos knows that even though my time looks different now, my love for him hasn’t changed one bit 🤍 He was my first baby he always will be by @michaela__hollis

@totummarket has natural + organic groceries, local Tampa Bay brands, fresh prepared food, sourdough pizza, smoothies, coffee + matcha AND a wine bar?! Basically… I could spend WAY too much time here 💃🏽🛒

sleep has been looking a little different for us these days 👶🏼☁️

we added the @delarahomeshop organic cotton mattress pad to our bed for an extra layer of softness, and it has made our bed feel so much more plush + cozy without having to replace our mattress!

one of those simple home upgrades that makes such a difference
