i still find myself speaking about you in the present tense, for the love and wisdom you bestowed upon me transcends time and your influence continues to shape my life in immeasurable ways. i miss you so much grandpa; and when i look around at the family you nurtured, the empire you built and the dynasty you sustained I can't help but feel an overwhelming sense of pride and gratitude for the legacy you've left behind. you were the olori omo oba, otunba, asiwaju, and grandmaster to many but i was one of the lucky 16 who were fortunate enough to also know you as grandpa (and i am eternally grateful for that). sun re o, baba mi. 🤍 by @michaelabalogun

COMMENT.The conflation of Antizionism and Antisemitism is inherently wrong and distracts us from the fact that Israel is still killing and displacing Palestinians.I hate that my first post about Palestine, isn’t centred around the Palestinians but I’ve been seeing a lot of this rhetoric in the media recently so I had to address it.JEWISH PEOPLE ARE NOT A MONOLITH.Zionists use the plight of Jewish people to justify the oppression of Palestinians; thus, trivialising the oppression of both groups.Antisemitism as a reaction to Israel’s war crimes is unacceptable. But so are sweeping statements that all Antizionists support Antisemitism. We must stop using the suffering of Jews to absolve Israel of its crimes.The fact that a group was/is oppressed doesn’t justify them doing the same to others. Oppression is not like a coupon card where after 3 instances of your community being oppressed you get 1 ticket to oppress a group without consequences. That’s not how this works.Israel can’t represent all Jews because Israel isn’t even for all Jews. If it was, then Solomon Teka, the unarmed 18 year old Ethiopian Jew killed by Israeli police in a playground, would still be alive.If it was, then Israeli authorities wouldn’t send Jewish conscientious objectors to jail because of their beliefs.If it was, then Ugandan Jews would not be prohibited from becoming citizens of Israel.If it was, then thousands of Jewish Yemenite children would not have been taken from their parents by Israeli authorities.THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.Israel is not exempt from criticism. It’s not right to use human suffering as a political pawn.
