“You have the best life ever. Your life looks SO fun.”

And listen….Instagram is squares.
Tiny, beautiful, fun, magical, unicorn-sparkle seconds of a day.

What about all the other seconds?

This week I’ve been sharing photos from one of the best work/play trips of my life,
full of love, laughter, hysterical moments, and so many seconds of joy with my people. And those moments were real. They mattered. They were beautiful.

But there were also other moments tucked inside this week that no one sees. Walking through the doors of a cancer center for infusions and check up scans is a secret. And it’s not often that I want to share those moments.

So this is just a reminder…life isn’t perfect.
Most of what you see here are the best seconds of my day or my week.
Just like yours.

We all have ugly.
We all have hard.
We just don’t usually post it.

So let’s give each other grace.
Less judging. Less competing. Less comparing.
More compassion. More honesty. More togetherness.

Cheers to the best seconds and the worst ones.

Life has a funny way of shaping us through suffering, challenges, and time. If you had told me a few years ago that I would willingly be back shooting in front of a camera, I would have cringed then laughed.

But it’s amazing how perspective changes with time. The physical marks we carry from battles we have fought stop feeling like imperfections and start becoming evidence of just how much we’ve overcome. These scars, we once wished we could erase become reminders of our strength and resilience, and the life we GET TO LIVE.

There is something incredibly freeing about reaching a place where you no longer feel the need to hide the parts of yourself that tell your story.

I chose to post this photo unedited, with one of my deepest physical scars visible, because I wanted to remember that our scars, whether they are on the outside or the inside, are not something we have to be ashamed of. They can shape us, soften us, strengthen us, and teach us to appreciate life in an entirely different way.

And maybe that is one of the greatest gifts of getting older: realizing that beauty was never about being untouched by life. Sometimes, beauty is found in the proof that you lived through it.

Cheers to stepping outside our comfort zones, saying yes to the scary stuff , and embracing every version of ourselves along the way. 🤍

My sweet Louie,

I cannot bare the story of losing you, and so I will tell the story of finding you.

You arrived so tiny. Just a little ball of white fur, small enough to fit in my arms. You arrived during a chapter of my life when I was bedridden, attached to a pain pump, and fighting battles I wasn’t sure I would win.

I was exhausted.

Broken.

The days blurred into nights, and the nights felt endless.
And then there was you.

You were supposed to spend your days playing, getting into mischief, chasing toys, and worrying about absolutely nothing.

But the moment you came home, it was as if you made a different decision.

You gave up being a puppy.

You appointed yourself my guardian.

My shadow.

My little protector.

You stayed beside me through every painful moment. The nights that never seemed to end. When everyone else was asleep, you stayed awake, reminding me that I was not alone.

When I hurt, you knew.

When I cried, you knew.

When I couldn’t rest or get comfortable, somehow neither could you.

You saw things that no one else ever saw.

The moments behind closed doors.

And through it all, you never left. Not once.
You spent eleven years watching over not just me, but our whole family. 11 years making sure I never had to face anything alone.

And somehow, even while carrying that responsibility, you remained completely and unapologetically Louis.

Rules didn’t apply to you.

Fences were merely suggestions.

You were brave. You were ridiculous. You were perfect.

You inserted yourself in to every moment of our lives. You demanded to be a part of everything. You were above dog toys and dog treats. You lived for steak night, patio time, taking the kids to school, and stroller rides to name a few things.

I still look for you.

I still expect to hear your paws.

I still catch myself waiting for your excitement when I walk through the door.

I still can’t quite believe you’re gone.

If love could have saved you, my sweet boy, you would have lived forever.

Happy Gotcha day Rogue!!! I can’t believe I’ve had this horse for a year now. I am so incredibly grateful for him and he has taught me so much. He has taught me so much patience and his to train a green horse. I can’t wait for our future adventures together and I will cherish every single second! I love you Roguey!!! by @michaeladockery_
