It’s with heavy hearts that we share the passing of the Burns family’s patriarch and hero.

Robert P. Burns Jr. 1940 – 2026

A husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

As a surfer, diver, fisherman and original member of the Windansea Surf Club, he was the true definition of a waterman.

In their mid twenties, our dad and mom Denise took a leap of faith and moved us from La Jolla to Catalina Island with two boys ages 4 and 5, a pregnant dog, and a fat cat. Dad always said it was the smartest decision he ever made and we agree. Many described him as a “quiet, humble badass,” which feels pretty accurate.

The island (“it takes a village”) helped raise us and is now part of four generations of Burns. His passion for the ocean took he and us around the globe on adventurous surf trips.
His 65 years of marriage is a testament of his love and commitment to his wife Denise along with a deep loyalty to family.

We will share more about his life and legacy soon but for now, we are raising a glass to him.

Celebrated the passing of The Legendary Bruce Bray 92. The Burns and Bray Boys then recreated the famous photo at Steve's Steak House (missing out brother Howie). We then took Dad out to Dave's new boat to "D-Compress" as properly named.
