- There’s a reason why Smithtown West coach Mike Agostino describes Michael Cascione as “generational.”
And he isn’t wrong.

The captain averaged 24.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, 5.2 assists (with a 2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio) and 3.0 steals in his final season with this team, all while averaging 25 minutes per game. He shot 53.5% from the field.

Cascione, who scored 1,383 points and saw the Bulls go 81-11, win three league titles and make three Suffolk finals across his four seasons, helped them capture the first county and Long Island titles in program history this season.

“Having him on my side is the best,” Agostino said. “He’s so tough, skilled, but above all that, he’s so unselfish.”

LI Sports Fanatic MVP award goes to Michael Cascione! Smithtown West NY. Like I said in the beginning of the season “you have a better chance at winning the lottery than stopping him” Cascione averaged 24 points per game with a ton of double doubles. One of the most physical guards I’ve watched and he would also play great defense and always had great assists. Led his team to a Suffolk championship for the first time in school history AND a Long Island Championship 💍🔥🔥🔥🔥 he’s the definition of relentless! I’ll stop right here and just say I’m proud of you and you really did that! Mini Jason Kidd omggg @michaelcascione11 by @michaelcascione0

Senior Michael Cascione last suited up at Stony Brook University for Smithtown West’s football team, suffering a loss in the county final. He said at the Suffolk basketball’s media day that he was “angry” as he entered the basketball season.

Months later, he returned to Stony Brook, this time for the boys basketball team. And after he delivered a 28-point master-class, he wasn’t angry anymore.

Cascione’s 28 points, along with 11 rebounds, eight assists, four steals and three blocks lifted top-seeded Smithtown West to its first county title in program history, beating No. 2 Half Hollow Hills, 98-68, to lift the Suffolk Class AA crown.

More on their title is at the link in bio.
