Thrilled my new comedy-drama START ANYWHERE is a Semi-Finalist in the Filmmatic Short Screenplay Awards!

START ANYWHERE is about a burned-out adjunct professor who misses his train home and spends an unexpected night with one of his students, whose impulsive outlook challenges his belief that his life - and creative ambitions - are already behind him. Tonally, it’s in the vein of “Lost in Translation,” “Before Sunset,” and “Columbus.”

🎬 START ANYWHERE — My New Film

What if we think we’ve waited too long for our dreams — but we haven’t?

I’m excited to share START ANYWHERE, a new short film and proof of concept for a feature, I’m directing this fall — a funny, intimate story about a burned-out adjunct professor who misses his train home and spends an unexpected night with one of his students who challenges his belief that his life — and creative ambitions — are already behind him.

That possibility of beginning again, at any age, is at the heart of why I wanted to make this film.

We’re assembling a terrific team, including award-winning cinematographer @alan_mcintyre_film (“A Vigilante,” starring Olivia Wilde) and actress/producer @pancynop and we’re partnering with @rider_university @rider.filmtv where I teach, to give students the opportunity to train and work alongside our professional crew. The script has already earned recognition from three esteemed screenplay competitions.

Our fundraising campaign is officially LIVE — LINK IN BIO! 🔗 - and I’d love to invite you to come aboard and help us bring the film to life. Thrilled to have Writer-Director-Producer @julyeis Debra Eisenstadt drop by my Screenplay Fundamentals class at @rider_university @rider.filmtv to talk about her passion for writing and directing, making personal films, working in narrative and documentary, and the practical realities of being an indie filmmaker! She inspired my students - and me! - and reminded us all to have fun, too.
