On February 14, in the presence of our parents and my grandparents, Oluchi and I married in a civil wedding—in Nigerian tradition, the first of several celebrations marking a marriage. We held the ceremony in the small Ohio chapel my parents were married in 45 years ago. My father officiated and my grandfather prayed over us: “When things get difficult, when there are misunderstandings, may their relationship be overwhelmed with agape love.” We plan to hold our public wedding next year. by @michaeljshowalter
