A couple of months ago, I learned that a friend of mine serves as a chaplain at FCI Miami. I reached out, wondering if my music had any place there. He said it did.

A few weeks later, I found myself playing music for a group of Jewish inmates.

Walking in, I was nervous. I'd never been inside a prison before, and I didn't know what to expect.

I was surprised by how quickly the labels disappeared. Within an hour, it didn't feel like I was with "prisoners." It just felt like I was sitting in a room with my brothers, singing together.

At one point, one of the men asked what had brought me there. I shared some of my own story about being bullied when I was younger, learning to be more vulnerable, and the journey I've been on these past couple of years to rediscover and use my voice.

It felt meaningful to share that story there.

By the time we finished, the nervousness I walked in with had been replaced by a real sense of peace and closeness. I left reminded that beneath our circumstances, we're all just people longing for love and connection.

I’ve been pretty quiet on here lately.

Life has just been moving faster than my ability to share it.

Over the past month I’ve hosted a home concert, facilitated an evening at House of More alongside @eliyahu_nash , shared music at a sober living home, at @shirhalev.circle , @neuroalchemy.center a psilocybin healing center in Colorado, and at a federal prison in Miami.

I also picked up new work to help support this journey, while spending time with my family, taking my daughter to her ballet recital and watching my son graduate from kindergarten.

I kept telling myself I’d post everything “properly,” and before I knew it, I had a growing list of stories waiting to be told.

So I’m letting go of the idea that everything needs to be polished.

Over the next little while, I’m going to start sharing these experiences. Some will have videos, some just a photo, and some may just be words. They’ve all been meaningful to me, and many of them have changed me.

I hope some of them resonate with you too. by @michaelmirsky

Asked my son to get a video of me playing.

Within seconds he was singing along, directing his sister into the shot, and eventually I became background music for whatever they were filming.

Yesterday I felt hurt.

Not by anything catastrophic. Just one of those moments that unexpectedly opens something deeper.

So I left my phone at home, went for a long walk along the beach, and later wrote about it in my journal.

One thing that stayed with me was the image of footprints in the sand.

We can never walk the same steps twice.

A moment passes and is gone forever.

Yet somehow it still remains real.

This reel is me reading from my journal.

Hashem, I need your help.

I’m trying.
I’m putting in effort.
I’m showing up every day.
But lately it feels like nothing is working.

I thank You every day and I mean it.
I’m even grateful for the struggle.
But I still need guidance.

Show me that I’m doing something right.
Or show me the right thing to do.

Give me clarity.

Last night I had the privilege of attending an intimate gathering in Miami hosting IDF soldiers whose lives were forever changed on October 7.

These young men left their homes to join their units and dedicate themselves to protecting our brothers and sisters and our homeland of Israel. Many of them experienced and witnessed horrors that no human being should ever have to experience.

After trying different modalities for trauma and PTSD, this organization offered them the opportunity to travel to Mexico for guided psychedelic therapy and healing work, followed by continued healing and integration together in Miami.

Hearing @sabrinacohen_305 , @omri_galili20 , and @drjoycebraverman speak about the work, and hearing some of the soldiers share about their experiences, deeply moved me.

One soldier shared with me how, in an intense life-or-death moment, his body never had the opportunity to fully process what happened because he was operating purely on adrenaline and survival. During the treatment, he was able to revisit that experience in a guided way and finally allow his body to feel what it never had the chance to feel.

Another shared that this program helped show them that PTSD does not have to be the end of the story, but can become a pathway toward PTG, post-traumatic growth.

There was so much presence, authenticity, openness, courage, and love in the room.

I was honored to share some music at the end of the night. Music which I’ve come to discover over the past few years can also act as a profound healing modality in its own right.

I left feeling tremendous gratitude, admiration, heartbreak, hope, and love for these beautiful souls.

Sending love, healing, emunah, brotherhood, and strength to all of my brothers and sisters on this journey. ❤️

My son and I at an open mic at @mymamasbooksrecordscafe this evening.

It’s his second open mic. The first time he sang my song Lechu Neranana while accompanied him on the guitar. Tonight he accompanied on harmonica while I played “You Are My Sunshine”, as well as a couple of my original songs.

He did amazing and I’m proud of his bravery and courage ❤️

*An Evening of Music & Presence w/ Michael Mirsky*

Music has a way of bringing people together. Through simple melodies and acoustic songs, this gathering creates a space where we can slow down, listen, and connect. It’s not really a performance. It’s more of a shared musical experience.
