Harrison’s Oak - 12x18

There’s an old oak tree in a small corn field on Harrison street when you’re driving west out of Valpo. I’ve taken a ton of reference photos, but nothing has really captured the spirit of it. With this illustration, drawn from imagination, I’ve tried to document the feeling I get when I drive past it. Maybe there’s a tree you like? You can imagine it here instead. Prints with free shipping available in my Etsy store.

CREATIVES in the front -
POTTERY in the back… 🥳

As we reflect on the incredible artist reception we had last Wednesday, we also heard from David Arreola, the new neighbor in Suite 4 of Valpo Creates Center… @duneland_pottery

VCC’s Art + Innovation exhibit provided an opportunity for six local artists to be featured at five downtown Valparaiso locations:

@lowerlincoln
@rootscafe.valpo
@nextdooratbirdies
@scented_science_valpo
and Valpo Creates Center

Featuring the talents of:
Melissa Griffin @indigoinkinteriors
Michael Pancini @michaelpancini
Wes Thorn @bmwthorn
Leah Romano McMeen @leah.romano.mcmeen.art
Teneia Dilosa @hearttocanvasllc
Beth Vottero @the_saged_brush

As a special layer to this exhibit, Mural Walk artwork of Duneland Plein Air Painters were showcased too. Providing a unique perspective of murals being captured in action!

We unveiled the works of:
Deborah Stipanovich
Laura Krentz
Kris Cook
Linda Wheat Monohan
Kuhn Hong
Christine Newton

As always, Art + Innovation provides a quarterly curation of local artists that everyone should know. Support these artists by giving them a follow, loving their posts, and even purchasing a piece!

This current exhibit is viewable through October 16th at each location listed above. In conjunction with our exhibits, downtown businesses are offering #ThirdWednesday offerings during their normal business hours too:

@scented_science_valpo
@nextdooratbirdies
@valpovelveticecream @pocomuse
@duneland_pottery
@valpopress

If you are an artist who would like to be considered for future quarterly exhibits, visit our website and submit the form under “get involved“.

VCC has showcased over 55 local artists in three years and we want to keep reaching artists we haven’t even met yet.

Might that be you??? 🤩

In the meantime, head to our website to sign up for a current of classes running October through December, and of course check out Duneland Pottery for ceramic offerings and Indiana Ballet Theatre for dance classes!

I took a long break (like 10 years) from writing songs, I’d run out of things to say, or things that I thought I could find a new way to say, within the medium. As I reflected on my life over the past few years the urge to express myself and understand the world via the song began to re-emerge, giving birth to this collection.

Almost every song was written for someone I know, someone close to me. It’s a sort of documentary I guess. The recording is very DIY, the takes are all live, and it has all of the imperfections one might expect from an ordinary life. If anyone listens, I hope you find as much comfort in listening as I have in writing.

A series of small 3” and under sketches. I love the low stakes of a small image.

This painting was done with a mix of viridian and burnt sienna, I wanted to experiment with using only two colors + white. Maybe more on the way…
