David,

I tried, I really did - but my IG Reels and TikTok editing skills were never on par with yours. You were the master. On our birthdays, your highlight reels were our gift from you - a mashup of moments we’d made together over the past 12 months. Each memory held its own story - a moment of uniqueness, laughter, or pure silliness. Because that’s exactly what you were: a walking memory in the making. Pure energy. Unapologetically and entirely you.

From the moment we became friends, I knew it was something special. And somehow, from that day on, I can’t remember what life looked like without you in it. It was instant. Familiar. Meant to be.

One of many moments that always sticks with me was during my City2Surf run. I hadn’t met the pace I was hoping for and was being a bit of a sook in those last 2 kms. But then I heard my name. It was you. You’d just landed from Melbourne and came straight to the race to cheer me on. I’ll never forget the rush of emotion and energy hearing you yell, “GO MIKE!” (I actually rewatched the video the other day just to hear your voice). And then - there you were, waiting at the finish line, arms open, giving me a huge hug, camera at the ready and telling me you were proud of me. I remember thinking: “David is a fucking good friend.” And you were. You still are. A fucking good friend.

Over the years, we built something extraordinary - a friendship group that became family. We shared everything: chaotic nights out and lazy days in, dinner parties and Kabanos sausages, costumes (always costumes), camping trips (which Santi and I invented, thank you very much), Christmases, trips away, days out, games nights, themed nights, movie nights, friendship award nights, work events, annual traditions, morning coffees, brunches, ridiculous jokes, long hugs, deep chats, unpacking, heartbreaks, home-cooked meals, healing moments, ugly-crying and full-belly laughter - and absolutely everything in between. We were - and always will be - your family.

I’m so deeply grateful for the years we spent together.

I loved you yesterday, love you today, and I’ll love you tomorrow and always.
