December 2020. I stepped onto the mats for the first time, just about six years ago now. Crazy how time flies.

Jiu jitsu never asked me to be good. It asked me to be a student. To check my ego at the door. To fail in front of people and come back the next day anyway. To show up on the days I had nothing left to give.

Wins. Losses. Injuries. Setbacks that felt like the end. None of it was easy. All of it was necessary.

Struggle taught me more about myself than comfort ever could — who I am with nothing to hide behind. Who I am when I win. Who I am when I lose.

This art stripped me down and built something stronger in its place — a warrior forged, not found. One that will not be shaken.

@dru_phoenix , @aandmbjj — thank you for taking me in during a major period of transition in my life, and for giving me a place to become who I am now. We become the product of our environment. I am grateful.

Grateful for @gesias, who introduced me to the art and took me under his wing from the beginning. Thank you.

All glory to God. Every step of this walk belongs to the Creator. Anything is possible when you have faith.

27. What the last few years taught me the hard way:

Your intuition is rarely wrong — your mind is the thing playing tricks.

The answers we’re looking for are usually in the work we’re avoiding.

Patience compounds. Everything I rushed, I paid for. Slow down. Let go and let God.

Make the money. Never be owned by it.

Take care of your mind, your time, and your body. Everything gets harder when one of them slips.

Remember who showed up when there was nothing in it for them. Loyalty is rare.

Family is everything. Honor them while you have them.

God is the answer. Always.
