POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This beautiful, 200+ inch “Typical” Muley buck was another highlight of my Utah deer hunting season last fall! Although I was able to get within Bow range a couple of times, just like a pile of my other encounters with bucks of this caliber, the cards just didn’t quite land in my favor. Despite not being able to successfully slip an arrow into this his pump-house, it was another highlight of the most incredible and fulfilling deer hunting season of my lifetime thus far.

We also observed many other Hunters and their trusty sidekicks all trying to compete and best this Muley Giant with the same result as we experienced.

As we understand, this buck finally met his end from the bullet of the Sportsmans Tag holder during the gap between the muzzleloader and rifle season. Huge congrats to the lucky man that was able to tag out and capitalize on what would no doubt, be the buck of a lifetime for most any of us!

I can hardly wait for this season to come already. Although I’m thrilled and even humbled with the buck I was able to harvest, I plan to apply last years lessons learned and gained wisdom, along with an even greater focus and effort to ultimately bring a buck like this one home with me!

We made a plan… I was “almost” in the perfect position and in a perfect place to lace my arrow through this buck at under 20 yards. Almost. With no real obvious warning… this buck suddenly made a B-Line right towards me where I was just 17 yards down the ridge on a steep hill with no cover. At 18 yards from me (one step away from sky-lining for me) he held up…. Stood there looking around for nearly a minute. Whether it was a swirling wind, sixth sense, or a glimpse of the top of my hat… the Buck knew something was “off.” My spotter radioed to me that the Buck stretched his neck towards me as if “peaking” over the ridge towards me and froze for a few seconds… then quickly wheeled around and busted away.

Bowhunting mature older bucks and bulls can = 💔

Lesson learned…. Never pause early to “let the situation unfold” if you aren’t in a good position with either appropriate cover or enough shooting lane options to give yourself a chance before something like this can happen. I had time to get to a better place but paused in “the wrong place” where something like this could happen. Arrow knocked… release hooked on D-Loop… and never even drew the bow on him.

Opportunity lost. Wasn’t able to turn this buck up again and learned another hunter killed him a few weeks later hard-horned.

Almost time to find another “shooter” like this buck the next few months!

This is a SUPER SOLID velvet buck. After multiple preseason scouting trips and nearly 30 trail cameras in this unit were deployed… at work… and assessed… Well over 50 bucks in this similar size and age class were observed and enjoyed. Despite feeling spoiled to see so many great deer, I never tire of time spent among and around amazing creatures like these. I ALWAYS feel at home and at peace spending time where they live and wander!

I HOPE that I NEVER “get used to it!” 🙏🏼 🦌🤩🏔️

Easy sucks! Earn it! Elk Burritos from a bull you earned from the sweat of your brow and the strength of your legs and back taste a MILLION times better than anything you could ever “Buy!” Prove me wrong!
