I'm so excited to be opening for stand up comic @pattisavard18 on Nov 4th at @rotarycentreforthearts. What a thrill. Look, Mom, I'm finally doing comedy! Telling one of my favourite new stories. Clothes Unmake the Man. Trying to give myself more permission to wear shit that I like. Dressing for my own pleasure is challenging for me. So hoping a photo project will make it more fun. I don't wanna be in a photo looking like a schlump. So I'm pulling all the cool fun stuff out of my closet that I don't wear often enough and leaving the house. That green tunic made me happy all day. I couldn't believe that I had left the house in that outfit, that I gave myself permission to be that guy, in these clothes. Theasymmetrical stripes with psychedelic leopard spots is a favourite too. I felt like a million bucks. Even camping, I felt cute. Here's to dressing for who you are, rather than what others think your gender can be. by @michaelveesmith

Further studies in surviving our climate apocalypse, I harvested our crabapples for the first time to make fruit leather sweetened with a simple syrup. A nice byproduct is juice, which I'll use in mocktails. I can't wait to try this next year with apricots, which will be epic. Thanks to @j.bev.2017 for the INSPIRATION, education and the use of their fruit mill. by @michaelveesmith

Upping my game trying to make real clothes. I'm surprising myself how much I can do, and reasonably well. This dress looks damn good for something I am learning to do. Making things with my hands always thrills me. It feels like slow magic. Something wasn't there ... and then through methodical planning and execution, there it is. Ta da. Wore a dress that I made--from a pattern I adapted off of another dress (pattern plagiarism)--to a fancy party. Everyone said I was the best-dressed person there. I'm surprised how at home in my skin I am wearing what delights me. Makes sense, but it's so counter to the fear I felt growing up. I love this new narrative. I love being 55 and not giving a shit what other people think, cuz I know I'm as pretty as I feel. For years people told me I was flamboyant and I wish I'd had the insight to reply, That's not flamboyance, jerk. That's glamour. by @michaelveesmith

A teenager in a Kelowna high school killed himself this week. He was being bullied. We live in a culture where we tolerate bullying far more than the bullies tolerate queers. Why are these harassing kids allowed to be in school? Why are their parents considered fit to raise them? I am so sick of the same stories of violence repeating themselves at the expense of my people. by @michaelveesmith
