‏Sun Drop is a mechanical art installation made with @tobistar1985 ♥️.

‏Using an RGB, a microcontroller, four servo motors, paint bottles, and tubes, we built a mechanical sculpture that drops four colors onto a sheet of paper. The colors and amount of paint dispersed vary throughout the day, according to each color’s relative percentage from the intensity of sunlight and other weather conditions. Powered by a solar panel and battery, it uses gravity to release the paint and harnesses the wind to randomly move the paper sheet. taken in ITP - NYU by @michalshoshan2

A loanword is a word at least partly assimilated from one language (the donor language) into another language (the recipient language). Experts estimate that around 80% of words in the English language are loanwords.

We used a statistical model to generate new loanwords that are remixes of preexisting loanwords. The new loanwords’ letters are then converted into symbols that represent a combination of the corresponding typographical sign of the sound they make in multiple different languages.

Every symbol has its own particular “physical” properties that are a direct result of its shape, allowing for unique interplay between the different letters of each word — creating a “culture” out of a mix of cultures.

Each petri dish displays one new loanword at a time. A new loanword is being generated every 30 seconds.
