What happens when a community turns its stories into action?

Join Bobbie and session leaders Karah Whearley, Michele Lampach, and Allie Brumel for a conversation about Connie’s Bill and how advocacy, storytelling, and collective action can help create meaningful policy change.

From community to Congress, this session highlights the impact of showing up, speaking out, and working together.

When I became an attorney and committed my career to fighting for human rights, this fight wasn’t in my line of sight yet. But it’s some of the work I’m most proud of in my life.

Six years ago, @bobbie learned about a gap in the Affordable Care Act: insurance covers a lactation pump, but not infant formula or donor milk for parents who medically cannot breastfeed — including those impacted by breast and gynecologic cancers. That discovery led our Bobbie Breasties program, which I inherited alongside @stefanieamberhughes when I joined the team to lead impact and Bobbie for Change.

To go from problem, to policy idea, to bill introduction is so so hard. This moment was never guaranteed. But our community did it through years of relentless advocacy. The Constance C. McDaniel Medically Necessary Infant Formula and Donor Milk Act, H.R. 9007, was introduced in the House with bipartisan leads last week. Sharing in that moment with some of the Breasties and Bobbie team, the Bobbie Breasties community near and far, Matt, Connie’s husband and Allie, my partner in all things Bobbie Breasties, is one I won’t soon forget.

To our Bobbie Breasties, every single one of the 615 of you over the years, you were there with us. And we can’t wait to take this over the finish line with you.

Because we are here to keep our promise and deliver this win. by @michelelampach

We always say at Bobbie when you become a mother you inherently become an activist. You find yourself radicalized by motherhood- and fighting for whatever that version looks like to you and those who need your voice to support.

And women diagnosed with breast cancer also by default become an activists— advocating for their health, for treatment, for medicine and today they advocated for their babies.

Together with @the_breasties we lobbied 7 lawmakers for Connie’s Bill— legislation we co-created to help support formula and donor milk for those physically unable to breastfeed.

In the last 48 hours almost 10,000 people across the US used our online tool to send a letter to their Congressional Rep or Senator to support this bill. How insane is that?? Nearly 10,000 fellow parents are now part of the unintended activists helping a whole swath of mothers feel seen in our nation’s insurance policies around infant feeding for the first time.

Leave it some activated parents to get sh*t done.

Thank you to our @bobbie fam for supporting our mom-founded company and being a part of this change. šŸ’š taken in Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C. by @michelelampach

We always had a vision of us standing here—in Washington D.C., with a bill we helped create.

In 2021, we exchanged DMs with @the_breasties about a gap in the Affordable Care Act that made no sense: free breast pumps, but no coverage for infant formula or donor milk for parents who medically cannot breastfeed because of breast cancer.

We were just a couple of moms in each other’s DMs. We said ā€œwe should change the law.ā€

So we are. We co-wrote a bill that would close the gap and create a pilot to cover donor milk and infant formula for those who medically can’t breastfeed due to cancer, maternal loss, and other medical necessity, including for infants with medical conditions that prevent them from breastfeeding.

Today we’re on Capitol Hill with our Bobbie Breasties—survivors, thrivers, and previvors—asking lawmakers to introduce Connie’s Bill.

We need you in this fight too. Comment BILL and we’ll send you a link to write your rep.

P.S. We always had the vision but we wouldn’t have gotten here without the support of each and every Bobbie family who chose our infant formula to nourish their babies. Every purchase powers this impact. Thank you. by @michelelampach

Today, I spent time with some beautiful advocates discussing the Black maternal morality crisis and some solutions to fix it. It was an intergenerational, multiracial space convened by a truly powerful host @synclairewarren in the home of @gloriasteinem, who is a hero of mine, probably all of ours. šŸ™

I met some new people and spent time with others with whom I’ve collaborated for years; @gabriellegabbyalbert of @4kira4moms @erin.coles of @birthfund and @hannahbronfman

I believe deeply that we can fix the maternal mortality crisis by centering those most impacted and those most impacted are Black women. And the rest of us, especially white women, must share in that labor.

@annamalaikatubbs, a truly incredible human and friend, describes allyship as ā€œnot erasing difference, not becoming the center of the story, but choosing to accompany another person with love and intention; that true allyship is relational.ā€

Her definition has stuck with me, hits so hard and resonates so much. It is what i believe in my bones and how I try to live. Yes policies will make change, but in order to get there, we must know one another, love each other, and fight like our lives depend on each other, because they do.

Happy Black History month. ✨ by @michelelampach

Sending love to everyone whose heart is breaking right now but still showing up. I believe in us. ICE was created in 2003, and there’s no reason why we can’t decide today that it never served its stated purpose and that it must be dismantled.

A better future is possible for all of us. by @michelelampach

When my dad learned he was sick, he had just landed in the Bay Area and headed to my house for a visit. But he was a shadow of himself. He feared the worst and the worst came to be. From diagnosis to his passing, we had about 19 months but they weren’t a good 19 months. Sprinkled in though, there were pockets of good. My dad seeing me run the NYC marathon was the very best of that time. Marathon weekend always makes me think of him and I do believe there is some karmic universal energy at play that his passing is close to marathon day.

I’ve been feeling myself missing him so much leading to today. He was the safe home to me that I think as humans we all seek - unconditional love and delight. He will forever be my bearded dad in the 80’s playing Billie Jean on repeat bc it was stuck in the tape deck in the beat up Datsun that barely drove. The computer guy that brings the PC parts to your house and fixes your friend’s computer at 9:00pm on a Tuesday. The fact nerd who knows all the answers to Jeopardy. The fashion diva who knew men and women’s shoes better than anyone. The guy who knew everyone at the candy store knew bc Friday nights he was putting TIME magazine to bed and needed his Twizzlers to stay up late. The only guy you knew who people went to for car lease advice. The dutiful son, brother, husband and most loving father. He always had time for us, always believed in us, and always showed us love. How lucky was I?

Three years today without my very best dad. But always always with me. Hug your people as long as you can. Because you can. by @michelelampach

Welcome to the family Liberty Lampach. 🄹

Her name, Liberty, honors our return to New York and also the first thing our immigrant families saw, the Statue of Liberty, when they arrived in the United States for the first time.

Her name, Liberty, is something we cherish - freedom - and something we fight for, for ourselves and others.

And her name honors Libby, her mother, who died at five years old, just a few weeks ago a month after giving birth.

Liberty is 8 weeks old and Nala, our forever puppy’s niece. ✨

What is a period of time but a collection of moments. As we started a new chapter of school a few weeks ago, here in Brooklyn, the thing we’ve been eyeing for a long time, I feel like we also said an official goodbye to the earliest years of their life, the California years. Over 7 years, it’s the little moments in between all the big ones, that I’m trying to remember. ✨ by @michelelampach

Meet the mother leading Bobbie for Change: Michele Lampach, human rights lawyer, founder, activist, and Bobbie’s Director of Impact.

Michele joined us on the latest episode of Milk Drunk to dive deep into Bobbie for Change, Bobbie’s social impact and policy arm of the business — including give back programs, how we support all feeding journeys, rapid response relief efforts, and exciting progress on a bill inspired by the Bobbie Breasties program.

If you’ve ever been inspired by Bobbie for Change — or if you’re looking for a dose of inspiration — we highly recommend tuning in!

P.S. Can we get a little commotion for Michele?! Consider this a love letter to her and the many, many babies in need that she has helped us feed. We šŸ’š you, Michele!

Another lap around the sun for me. Age is definitely more than a number. It’s a marker of time, it’s a container for memories, it’s a way we can make meaning. It doesn’t have to define us but it can be a one of many ways to view things.

I am grateful for this life that I have, but most importantly the people in it. I have learned a lifetime of lessons this year and deepened relationships with myself, my little babes and so many important cherished ones on my life’s journey. It can be scary to age and learn about yourself in new ways. Especially in times that are scary and painful.

But I’m here for the expansion in years and my heart. In the fight always for all of humanity. And excited to continue loving up on the humans I get to navigate life with.

It’s Sagittarius szn babies! ✨✨✨ by @michelelampach
