POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Many years ago, the Olympic gymnast @danniprince and taught me “Don’t practise until you get it right. Practise until you can’t get it wrong”.

Here you can see just a few of the many tries @sriani_argaet patiently did with me while filming the ‘twirls’ for the opening credits of @dancingau .

A massive part of the reason I said yes to doing this was to show my stepdaughter Georgia how much she means to me by trying to do something she’s very, very good at.

I spent many nearly a decade as a “dance dad”, driving Georgia to and from her classes, dragging a suitcase full of costumes (many of which she only wore once!) all over the country so she could dance at eistedfods.

Having seen the enormous benefit that dance brought G, the lessons she got from it. Vital lessons about how long it takes not just to learn something, but then how long it takes to achieve mastery at something; the lesson that this will only look good if we all look good so it’s how important to lift each other up and be of service to other people on stage; and that if you’re not feeling that good, dance for a little while and you’ll feel a whole lot better.

I see her carry these lessons into her career now as an elite Pilates instructor, and transferring these mindsets into the work she’s doing at university.

Was I able to achieve the mastery that she did with over a ten years of practise and rehearsal within a very short window of mere weeks for this show? Absolutely not.

Did I explode with pride that I was able to dance in front of her and Wolfgang? Absolutely.

The truly beautiful full circle moment is that one of Georgia’s earliest elite teachers was @meechellebarr - she and I worked together on The Masked Singer for many years, so I was thrilled that we got to work together on this as well.

There’s something about hearing Michelle shout “5,6,7,8!” that still snaps me to attention. And something about knowing each other quite well so that when she sees me goofing around, she can pull me into line.
As you’ll see at the end of this video.

Chookas for tonight.

5 years of juggling study and work, starting and stopping, and my friends and family allowing me to complain incessantly about assignment deadlines. Unfortunately for them, I’ve got more study to come. But this milestone feels gooorge!!

Dancing With The Stars Season 3 Finale - 7:30 tomorrow night on @channel7
It’s been a whirlwind season this year with an amazing cast of dancers, making it sparklier than ever! My third year in the Ballroom and I still haven’t mastered a samba walk. My jive face is better than ever though. ✨💃🏽🕺🏼
