Positions en mi, 2023 series
What I was aiming to understand with this project was the body’s ability to both adapt and fail to adapt at the same time.
I suppose there was a sense of superiority toward the cows however, once placed in society a sense of inferiority....
By placing a human figure and furniture into unfamiliar environments, there are movements attempting to reproduce familiar, learned positions tied to domestic space.
In certain locations the body becomes fully expressive almost excessively releasing what is contained!! However once placed within a social environment, that same body begins to hide, becoming self-aware.
The work moves between these states of exposure and restraint, questioning whether the self is ever stable, or if it is constantly negotiated between expression and concealment. by @michelleepfeifer

2 1/2 months of working on my specimen
Extending beyond the proportions of the human body
Ritual vessel
Building, collapsing, reforming
Obscuring, revealing
The human need of belonging
Textures of the universe that I have encountered....
Rocks, clay, heavy weight
A child
Translating a person’s buried memory into a form where they can feel what cannot be said. Born... Reborn I wouldn’t have been able to create this piece without the new @blaauw_kilns that we got at the beginning of the semester. I was an artist in residence for 1 month at @aga_lab
I wanted to experiment with acids, allowing them to interact freely with the plates
I don’t force direction

To some extent, I think we should let art make itself
