The other night, I had the honor of attending a Salon supper at the Frye Art Museum — a place that has shaped who I am since before I could walk.

Growing up, I would visit the Frye with my grandmother, a passionate art enthusiast, costume designer, and true bon vivant. Every return to those galleries brings back how much she poured into me during those visits.

The biggest lesson wasn’t just an appreciation for art — it was learning to be open-minded, to see things from different perspectives, to find beauty in all its forms, and to live boldly. She taught me to stay curious and keep creating and exploring at every stage of life.

Sitting in that same space decades later, surrounded by art and conversation, I felt her influence in every corner of the room. Grateful for evenings like this that remind me where my love of art began — and for the people who plant those seeds early on.

This year’s trip to Martha’s Vineyard included attending Culture House on Martha’s Vineyard — the experience at the intersection of tech, media, and entertainment. It’s an annual immersive, full-day event held against the backdrop of cross-industry conferences and festivals, with a mission to amplify and celebrate diversity, leadership, and creativity across several industries.

I spent a truly inspiring day on Martha's Vineyard at the PlanetHAUS event — one filled with joy, knowledge, and community. ✨

PlanetHAUS exists to showcase how sustainable consumerism actually looks, tastes, and feels — and this event brought that mission to life through powerful speaker sessions, a beautiful Gifting Garden, and thoughtfully curated menus.

I had the privilege of hearing from an incredible lineup of leaders spanning technology, philanthropy, business, education, and the arts, including:

Janet Collins, Founder of PlanetHAUS; Van Jones, CNN commentator, author James Page, The Nature Conservancy, and Kent Lucas, non sibi ventures.

Each speaker brought a distinct perspective, but the throughline was clear: sustainability isn't a sacrifice — it's an opportunity to build something better, together.

I came away with new ideas and a renewed sense of purpose around how I can support PlanetHAUS's mission going forward.

If you want to experience it for yourself, the next PlanetHAUS event takes place Monday, September 21 – Tuesday, September 22 during NYC Climate Week at the Chief Clubhouse. I highly recommend adding it to your calendar.

Women’s History Month is a time to honor the women whose shoulders we stand on.

For me, that begins with two extraordinary women.

My mother, Merlie Burton Flowers, was a gifted artist. Her paintings fill my home today—a daily reminder of her vision, grace, and quiet strength.

My grandmother, Alice Bates Macklin, was a visionary. A successful businesswoman, costume designer, and clothing designer, she built with creativity and grit, advancing her community with beauty and wisdom.

They taught me that you don’t have to choose between being an artist and being a leader.

Today, I carry their legacy forward by investing in young women and girls—helping them see their own potential the way my mother and grandmother always saw mine.

And I learn from my daughter every day, proof that the best way to honor the past is to pour into the future.

This Women’s History Month, I’m celebrating the women who paved the way and the next generation who will carry it forward.

Today marks National Girl Scout Day, commemorating the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low gathered 18 girls in Savannah, Georgia, and officially started a movement that would change millions of lives.

As someone who has been on both sides of the uniform—first as a Girl Scout myself, and now as a mother watching my daughter thrive in the same organization—this day holds a very special place in my heart.

I remember the feeling of pride selling my first box of cookies (and the math skills it secretly taught me). I remember the camping trips, the community service projects, and the very first badge I ever sewed onto my vest.

Now, I get to see the magic happen all over again. I see my daughter learning to lead a team, speak up for what she believes in, and ask "How can I help?" in her community. It’s more than just Thin Mints and campfires (though, let's be honest, the Thin Mints are a highlight). It’s about building an entire generation of female leaders.

This week, as Girl Scout Week kicks off with celebrations, cookie booths, and service projects, I’m feeling incredibly grateful.

To the troop leaders: Thank you for your endless patience and dedication.
To the volunteers: Thank you for showing our girls what community looks like.
To the parents: Thank you for sharing this journey.

And to my daughter: Watching you build your courage, confidence, and character is the greatest badge I’ll ever wear. 💚
