Help me figure out what just happened to the Wolf Born audiobook set, because I'm stumped 🐺🎧

For years, my Wolf Born audiobook set has held steady at around # 2,000 in the Amazon audiobook store. It’s a rank I'm proud of, and one most audiobooks never reach.

Then over the last three days, it climbed into a whole different stratosphere… and this morning it hit # 90 out of every audiobook on Amazon 🤯

I’m confounded. I didn’t run a sale on it. I didn’t participate in a promo for it. I have no idea what set this off.

So I have to ask: did you get an email from Amazon about Wolf Born? Did a post about it go viral somewhere? If you have any idea what happened, please share it in the comments, because I’d love to know.

But here’s what I DO know: when it reached # 101, I asked for you to help me crack the top 100. Then, in a few hours, it happened. So part of this is because of you, and I love you for it.

I wrote my entire first novel in one school year, and not a single page of it happened because I "felt like it." It happened because I made myself rules I refused to break.

Rule one → I wrote at least 1,000 words a day. Writing a WHOLE book is terrifying, but 1,000-word chunks? Now we're working with numbers I can actually beat ✨

Rule two → No more lunch with friends in the dining hall. I went straight back to my room between classes and got the words down before I let myself do anything else.

Rule three → If those words weren't done by dinner, I didn't go out at night. I sat on my bed with my laptop and wrote while my friends got ready around me, music blasting, the whole thing. And no matter how much they tried to change my mind, I didn’t budge.

Rule four → No homework until the words were finished. If that meant I was up until 4 AM, then I was up until 4 AM.

Fifty-five books later, and I'm not writing between classes anymore, but the bones are exactly the same.

I still set a daily word goal and refuse to log off until I hit it.
I still say no to plans when I haven’t hit my goals.
I’m still up until 3 AM because I know I can push myself ✨just a little bit harder✨
I still write when I'd rather do literally anything else, because I learned a long time ago that the words don't care whether I feel like showing up.

And that, more than talent or luck or timing, is what got me to where I am today 🫶🏻

This has been in my bio for over a decade, and I still haven't done it. That's on purpose — I’m saving it for when I'm older, because I love living in NYC, and I'm not planning on leaving anytime soon.

And you know what? That’s totally okay.

About thirteen years ago, I told someone I dreamed of moving to NYC someday. He immediately asked why I didn't just pick up and do it right then. I explained that I was focused on building my author career first, and that uprooting my whole life would have split my focus from the thing I cared about most.

He got combative. He picked apart every reason I gave, like I was suddenly on trial for my own choices. Even "I’d need to get a roommate in NYC to make it feasible right now, but I work from home and need my quiet space to be most productive" wasn't good enough for him. He was determined to paint me as someone too scared to chase her dream, when the truth was the exact opposite.

I was seething. Because he had zero foresight and no understanding of what it's like to hold several dreams at once — to know which ones to prioritize over all else, which ones to chase now, and which ones to table until they fit your life.

And here's the part that gets me: all of this happened before I'd found my current success as an author. I was protecting my BIGGEST dream, and he wanted me to feel foolish for it.

So I waited. I built my career. And now, I’ve sold over four million books and live in the city I used to dream about.

Not every dream needs to happen immediately. The cruise is just the next dream waiting for its turn 🌊

My sister-in-law said I talk about NYC as much as vegans talk about not eating meat, and she has a fair point 😅

I post about writing all the time, so today I want to share a little about who I am when I close the laptop.

I'm obsessed with Broadway shows. I was a theatre kid since before I can remember – dancing, singing, acting… I did it all! Although my acting career peaked when I played Pinocchio in third grade, and my dance career peaked when I was a mouse in the Russian ballet’s production of the Nutcracker in seventh grade.

My favorite musical is Wicked, and I’ve seen it live twenty-two times. I also love Phantom of the Opera and Hamilton.

I've been to all seven continents (yes, I’ve been to Antarctica 🐧) and I'm always planning the next trip.

I’m actually in London right now, and I’m boarding a cruise ship tomorrow! It’s a SOLAR ECLIPSE cruise, because there’s a solar eclipse in Spain and we’ll be partying on deck under the blacked out sun ☀️🖤

And when I need to recharge at home, you’ll find me deep in a puzzle 🧩(Actually, you’ll usually find me reading a book. But because this post is supposed to be about things OTHER than writing and reading, puzzles are a close second.)

I can't understand a single word of these books. I've never been prouder to hold them 😭

The full French set of the Witch Blade series showed up at my door, and I sat on the floor and stared at them for an embarrassingly long time.

My books have been in German for years. This year I started expanding into French and Spanish — and the French edition of Silver Storm has done so much better than I let myself hope for. (Top 100 in the entire France Kindle store!)

Most of you here read me in English, and I need you to know that none of this exists without you. You read the books. You tell your friends. You send me messages at ridiculous hours that keep me writing at 3 AM.

Everyone secretly knows which element they'd have 👀
