This weekend I watched Morgan officiate the wedding of two of her best friends. There is something so special about seeing the person you love through the eyes of all the people who love her. It reminds you of so many lovely aspects that you only rarely get to see. I know people get all sappy about weddings but I mostly just get sappy about her in any situation. by @micjoyrob

Room is my “home bookstore.” It is a place where I learned what it looked like to center non-white, queer, immigrant voices, to read stories that were not written for me, and how to let serendipity lead me to what I want to read, not what I “should” read. It is also the place where, in retrospect, I would go to be in a queer space with queer people at a time when I was not quite ready to tell the world who I am. To be there during Pride, in a rainbow dress, with my WIFE - any words fall flat. It is a miracle of a place.

I’m determined to get better at posting monthly reading wrap ups. I love to share recommendations and people say they like to hear mine! So here we go!

I listened to Carrie Soto is Back and I’ll Be Gone In the Dark. Carrie Soto was good but not as good as others by Jenkins Reid. I was so excited about, and so disappointed by, I’ll Be Gone in the Dark.

Oranges and Henry James’ Midnight Song were random estate sale pickups. Delightful!

I’m having a “where have you been all my life” moment with Joan Didion. Expect a lot more of her in April- I may or may not have thrifted most of her body of work.

Babel and the Collected Schizophrenias are on my TBRR (to be reread) shelf. Amazing!

My “goal” of 2023 is to read what I want when I want to read it and thrift more books instead of always buying new. And before anyone reminds me about the library….yes I am going to be ~borrowing~ instead of ~buying~ books. Down with overconsumption!

I was diagnosed with CPTSD at the beginning of 2021 and there was a lot happening to distract from the near constant triggers. This year each trigger and each flashback hit me like a truck. I wouldn’t say it was a great year.

But here is what I learned: I’ve done a damn good job of protecting myself, and even though I don’t need those protective measures anymore, I know I can save myself. That’s worth a lot. I don’t know what this year will bring, but I am grateful I have a strong support system, two great therapists, a beautiful home, and enough hope to set some goals. Happy New Year to everyone, but especially those who are struggling. I see you. We can get through this. by @micjoyrob

The HOTTEST, FUNNIEST, SMARTEST, COOLEST 30 year old on both sides of the Mississippi!

Multiple times a day I look at you and get knocked off of my feet. You take life’s struggles with humor and grit and somehow always make it beautiful and fun in the end. I swear your laugh lights up the world like neon. You are an amazing partner and my best friend.
