Uh oh, it looks like my Internal Check Engine Light is on. At least it isn't blinking.

Some days, when we access our emotions and feelings and we know we don't feel right, we look inside ourselves, deep inside into those crevices and cracks and dark places where we try to hide those uncomfortable items of reality, shine a light on them and we don't like what we see.

We have choices. We can allow our shame and denial to dress it up and make it look nice so we like what we see or we don't see it, or we can take a personal inventory, check our self care list, check our promises we have made to ourselves, and then do the hard work to repair emotional wounding and shame. And reach out for help when we know we can't self diagnose and we need an expert to help us.

I am mindful of those moments where I am feeling sorry for myself. Some persons within my circle of friends are dealing with conditions that make my momentary self absorbed misery look very trivial. I ask myself to rate, on a scale of 1-10, how selfish and self centered I am feeling in those moments. Then I look in my self-care "back pocket" for something to put my ego back in its place. #perspective #empathy #humility #SelfCare #compassion #recovery by @mickey55magic.01

Michael (Mickey) Pratum is a 36 plus year trial lawyer. Admitted to practice before The Supreme Court Of The United States. Eagle Scout. In addition to his Juris Doctorate, he has a B.S. in Chemistry, Philosophy and Human Services (emphasis on Substance Use Disorder treatment). Biochemistry research assistant in undergraduate school. Chemistry lab instructor at Pierce College. He's a long time saxophonist and he's sung in choir. He loves a wide variety of music styles and genres, from country western to heavy metal rock to funk, blues, R&B, symphony (he's served on the Board of a local symphony). Mickey has designed, implemented and managed an At Risk Youth substance use disorder treatment program. He has worked on a mental health services team composed of substance use disorder professionals (Mickey was licensed in that professional field at the time), social workers, art therapists, psychologists, general mental health therapists and psychiatrists. He's formally trained in gas, stick and MIG welding and loves metal fabrication for car and motorcycle projects. He has restored (himself) two English sports cars and he "can fix almost anything". Mickey has been in competitive sports most of his life: football, track and field, water polo, downhill skiing, slalom water skiing and ski jumping and hockey. Mickey loves being outdoors, rain or shine, blazing heat or heavy snow storm. Mickey is a former licensed large displacement motorcycle (Ducati) road racer. He's been trained in Grand Prix motorcycle racing. His fund of knowledge and variety of personal experiences, serious challenges and disasters in life, his triumphs and failures, his professional and personal organization memberships, his experience using support groups, his professional and personal experiences and knowledge of medicine, orthopedic and other surgery, his personal story of how he took difficult and often painful choices of discovery and recovery from his once broken condition, made him who he is today: an emotionally intelligent, highly educated, extremely experienced and knowledgeable, man who wants to help others succeed in attaining their best version of themselves. #LifeCoach #succeed taken in Auburn, Washington by @mickey55magic.01
