You want to help build a better world, of course! But where to begin? There’s a lot of messaging to “do something” about the big problems we face, but what does that really MEAN?

Start creating meaningful change in your community right now, where you are, with what you have! Mutual aid lets us build the better world we want in small, simple steps that deepen our connections to each other. Sometimes it's as straightforward as making a little extra food to give a neighbor, or offering a compliment to someone at the store.

Written by long time community builders and activists, this book and/or deck are full of useful, accessible, actionable steps you can take today.

It's #BannedBooksWeek, y'all

By now, we don’t need to tell you about the alarming rise of book bans and challenges sweeping the country, specifically targeting books about folks in the margins. (It’s probably not a coincidence that it’s happening right alongside the rise of fascism, you know?)

But! There are so many things you can do to help combat book bans, protect the right to read, and educate your community.

Want a good place to start? Check out "How to Defend Books & Why" by @dannycaine

There are two ways to get a free copy this week, to help you learn how to fight for the right to read in your own community.

📖@bookshop_org is giving away the eBook on their website
🎧 @silentbookclub and @librofm are teaming up to offer the audiobook as a giveaway at their Read-In events

Banned Books Week kicks off next week, and our banned books display has been sparking great conversations! 🚫📚️ The books that are being banned are critical stories and offer takes on real issues, so it has been a privilege to highlight these titles within our community.

On October 8th at 6 PM 🗓️ we are turning the act of reading into a visible, peaceful protest against censorship by hosting a FREE silent read-in after hours at the bookstore. Every attendee will receive a FREE audiobook from @librofm , along with Banned Books Week goodies on a first come, first serve basis.

Our goal for this event is simple, to fill the shop with silent, reading bodies in a powerful display of unity for intellectual freedom. Similar to our Silent Book Clubs, there is no assigned reading, but feel free to bring a banned or challenged title to read. All readers are welcome (e-books, audiobooks, textbooks, comic books... it's bring your own book!). So RSVP using the link in our bio, spots are limited! We hope to see you there ❤️‍🔥

In 2007, we did so much woodworking that a neighbor came over and exclaimed “you’re a bookstore? i thought you were a woodworking shoppe!!” Our Cleveland warehouse is keeping that tradition alive with these new shipping stations made from the scrap wood of an old office room frame. by @microcosm_pub
