🍎“Daisy Sweetapple Lives next Door”🍪

I decided to join the “Imagined Book Cover” - challenge! ☺️💖 I’m hoping to get 3 completed by the end of the challenge, unfortunately I can’t do them all because I’m quite busy this weeks.

In this first prompt, the story would be about a VERY obnoxious neighbour-lady who sticks her nose in everyone’s business, especially poor, nervous Nellie, who JUST wants to relax and clean the house on her day off. Can these two opposites reconcile or… maybe it’s okey if they don’t?

This was super enjoyable!☺️ I’ve never made a “fake cover” so it was a fun challenge 😆 I have a lot to learn still but I think this is a great start if I may say so myself🙏🏻💖 let me know what you think and if you’d wanna read this book?

My name is Josephine, I’m an illustrator from an island in northern Norway and I like working with whimsical stories set in colourful worlds 🩷 Currently looking for agent representation for children’s book illustration and graphic novels! Jumping on the #kindachic bandwagon to share some of the myriads of video clips I post on my stories but that never sees the light of day on my feed hehe.

Hi! If you are new here, my name is Josephine, I’m an illustrator from an island in northern Norway. I also do oil paintings, plein air and sketchbooking as well as currently developing my debut graphic novel! And yes, I do also have a 4-5 days a week dayjob rn while I build up my savings and confidence to leap into the full-time artist life. Sharing all these slides feels very vulnerable, there are a LOT of little video snippets on each and many thoughts that go with them, but it also feels good, because it’s authentic, and I know there’s many others out there like me who are working hard to reach their dreams but who also feel nervous about the future and their life in it as a creative. So take this as me saying you are not alone, I’m also on that journey with you☺️🩷Might be a little corny but… Be brave little heart!! 💓

🎨🩷Finished a sketchbook just as July ended, so wanted to do a little highlight reel of some of the best pages from this one! It was a sketchbook where I explored a lot and allowed myself to create freely without worrying about quality, so there’s loads of pages with super rough sketches and doodles, mini-biographical comics, studies of things around me and just silly character designs, alongside thumbnails for story ideas. The more sketchbooks I fill the free-er they feel! It’s no longer about having a pretty sketchbook as much as just a brain dump with whatever interests me in the moment. After returning from a month in France, I recently finished my first full spread of my graphic novel «The Micro»! So excited to show you guys my progress and what I learned though creating these pages💖 Thanks for watching!

Ps: Check out @sophiemcpike and her amazing work! She has taught me so much about colour and shape, even way before having the privilege to attend her retreat 💖 Definitely worth a follow!

🩷The Micro update: proud to present the opening spread, the official introduction to the world of the Micro! 😃💖🙏🥰it’s colour pencil outlines, watercolour and a tiny bit of gouache painted on A3 sized watercolour paper. I’m working on a reel about the making-of as well, with some behind the scenes, lore and thoughts on my process/challenges I had, so be on the lookout for that💖 it’s just taking a little bit of time cause I’m learning better editing techniques and storyboarding it out 😆😅🙏 in the meantime I couldn’t help but show you guys the result so far! Next step is scanning and editing. I wanna paint it traditionally as far as I can but I will allow myself to edit digitally so perfectionism won’t freeze me over hehe☺️ it’s a LOT of learning as I go, I’ve never painted a graphic novel before, let alone traditionally, so it’s a bit nervewracking but I’m so encouraged by the results I’m seeing 💖🙏 but more about that next time. Thank you guys so much for being here and following along on my journey with making this 💖 Please let me know what you think in the comments! ☺️

🏰🧡 In June I was able to attend one of the MOST amazing and life-changing experiences of my life: @sophiemcpike ‘s artist retreat in Dordogne, France 🇫🇷🩷 It was an incredible week filled with sketchbooking, plein air painting and workshops, outings to medieval towns and markets, amazing food, giggles and late night shenanigans, all with a group of some of the most lovely human beings I’ve ever met!!🥰 The pictures and videos above are from our first outing, to Beynac-et-Cazenac, which is an old castle town in the area. This is the castle where they filmed the Drew Barrymore movie «Everafter»!😍 Sophie did a demo showing us how to simplify details on a complex structure (like a castle) and then we were let loose to paint on our own. You can see how my sketchbook spread turned out on the 4th slide. After the session we toured the castle and had a great time looking at all the beautiful treasures inside: tons of carved furniture, insanely detailed tapestries and pottery, and even just roof tiles and moss covered crevices became points of notice ✨ I think what everyone was most excited about though was the chickens 😆 in the end we rounded it off with some delicious icecream and I was a happy camper 😁 this day will live in my mind forever, such a happy memory 🥰

💖✏️ When working on my graphic novel I first sketched all the pages digitally, printed them and now I’m in the process of cleanly tracing them onto watercolour paper using colour pencils! It’s very slow and time consuming work, and I’m kinda nervous to start painting over it. But I’m planning to ease into it by doing smaller sample paintings to get used to each colour palette and how the watercolours mixes. I once had a teacher who said «fail quickly, draw small when you’re figuring things out». I partially agree to this since it helps speed up things, but sometimes it also really helps to paint the whole thing at least once, as if it was the final piece however you’d paint it, and see where mistakes happen at full scale. Cause then you can minutely avoid it for next time. Maybe not the most efficient tactic, but you learn, and reiteration can only make the final stronger.

This reel was filmed a few weeks ago but I was so busy that there was no time to finish editing and posting until now, so sorry for the delay.

Also, this will be my final reel/post before my summer vacation! I’m gonna be in France ALL of June! 🇫🇷🥰 I’m attending an artist retreat, then will be galavanting around Paris for a while before ending my trip at the Annecy animation festival! So my social media will be on a break for the duration. But, please stick around for when I come back, cause I promise I’ll have loads of fun things to share, including updates on The Micro 😉💖

💖🌈 Outfits Spring ‘26 ☕️🦁

I’ve always loved drawing clothes, and I realize it has been a really long time since I did one of these posts, so here’s a bunch of outfits I wore recently! It’s funny cause I got really into the dark academia of it all, wearing shirts and checkered- or corduroy-pants while reading «The Secret History» By Donna Tartt, and yet… when I draw it I guess I can’t help but push the bright colours haha. Feels more like a kindergarten teacher at this point 😂

The second and third slides are my previous outfit posts from 2023 and 2021. It’s funny seeing just HOW much my style has evolved! Apparently I’m turning smaller and smaller with each iteration 😂 anyway, this was super fun! I did the background in my sketchbook with colour pencils and neon highlighters, feel like it really spiced it up 💖 hope you like it too!☺️

🌷Everything is Tulips🌷🩷 - Character Design Exploration.
