My final for expressive drawing. I included the blurbs that i wrote in my sketchbook which i dont usually do but if you want to/can read it from the pictures then it gives a little bit of the idea behind this piece. I want to do more on this idea in the future so im not dying to share all my thoughts yet. This one does suffer from the sketch pose being a little more fluid and *expressive* but i still like how it turned out. I really enjoyed the critique session for this bc many people thought it was supposed to be a pig person, which i totally get considering the nose got shortened between the sketch and finished piece. The ears also bacme more downturned and less canine-like. Something else i didnt exactly expect was someone getting the kind of "martyr" like representation of this figure. I was channeling a lot of feelings when i developed the sketches and im very glad they came through with the twisted anguish and sorrow. The whole pose and way of drawing the body was pulling a lot of inspiration from very classic paintings and drawings of the human figure specifically in a lot of religious works. My classmate literally mentioned St. Sebastian which i definitely was pulling long-had inspiration from for this project! Oh and its oil pastel.

Can you believe? A painting that wasnt for any assignment, just my own personal enjoyment of art! I like this painting but i think i made a mistake by drying it flat because all my lovely impasto texture melted lol. You can see the final picture is of the painting still wet, before i set it out to dry and it has so much more texture! So yeah reminder not to dry your think and textured paintings flat.

One of my favorites:) we did a cool underpainting and then covered it in warm colors with a lot of scumbling. The cool in my painting is almost completely covered up, so its really interesting to see the picture of just the cool toned paint. by @microwavechild

Multimedia, Abstract & analogous color scheme using only one shape. I used acrylic molding paste and salt to sculpt on the canvas and then painted over with oil paint and glued on spirals if paper. The molding paste and salt made a really satisfying spackle-like texture. Also the painting where I kept on asking my friends if it looked too much like a bunch of vaginas. by @microwavechild

Ornamental pumpkins using grisaille and glazing. This one turned out super pretty. I've wanted to try grisaille and it was cool to see how much it effected the depth of the color and shading. I primed this canvas but I didn't sand it smooth enough at all which is the only thing Idont really like about it. I dont think its too noticable though. by @microwavechild

Self portrait from my painting class last semester. If I had to choose one part of this painting that im the most proud of, it has to be the nose! I spent a lot of time getting all the minute value changes that can make or break how a portrait looks in that area especially. This assignment had a limited color palette where we could only use a set of complementary colors plus black and white. I did mine with only red-orange, blue-green and white. I didnt end up using black because the tertiary complementary colors were near-black when mixed together anyway. by @microwavechild
