All I can think about is what if?

Our school district has not kept up with the educational needs of its community. It is still functioning as the Montgomery County of the past. Too many Black and non-native English speaking children cannot read.

If Black people are at the top, what is the problem? @zsj__40 co-founder and co-executive director of @racialjusticenow talks about her work and why she does it.

Many of the “Top Dogs” in leadership are Black in Montgomery County, MD. Elected officials, county, government directors, the Black who’s who occupy the top spaces.

Yet, only 38% of Black children are reading on grade level. Half of the defendants in our court system are Black. Black boys are 87% of those in juvenile detention centers. 50% of those counted as homeless last year were Black men.

No public outcry. Black people don’t matter.

Hillside residents have spoken. Now the City must act.

Marine veteran Leo Thompson, president of the Hillside Senior Tenant Association, testified about safety and housing conditions at Hillside Senior Living. He identified MRK Partners as the property owner.

The community is home to seniors, including people with disabilities, many living on very low incomes. Residents have repeatedly raised concerns. The City has been notified. The City Code must be enforced, with citations and the sanctions needed to secure compliance.

It’s estimated Hillside could generate about $2.6 million a year in gross rent at full occupancy. That is an estimate, not profit. Residents deserve safe conditions and a clear timeline for action.

Thank you @iamtiffanykelly for hosting this important summit that brought attention to the PEOPLE who've been left behind and marginalized at your inaugural mid-county summit (Mid-County Democratic Breakfast club)in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

It was my honor to participate on the panel that centered the Black experience in this part of "progressive, liberal" Montgomery County, Maryland.

I am glad to learn that my comments and @westbaltimorelove remarks had people "clutching their pearls." 💪🏾🤣

GOOD! People are DONE with business as usual. Gaslighting and playing in our faces while they continue to cater to the billionaire class in the region.

It's predictable that the city of Gaithersburg elected leadership got up and left right in the middle of the program. Right before our panel that centered Black people's experience in @midcountymoco. The hate is REAL in how they govern.

The residents of Hillside Senior Living Apartments in Gaithersburg have something to say, and I want our community to hear them.

They will join us this Saturday at the State of Mid-County Communities Summit to talk about what aging in place actually looks like when residents face concerns about safety and building conditions and struggle to get timely responses.

Aging in place means more than being able to stay in your apartment. It means being safe, being heard, and being able to count on someone to respond when something is wrong.

Come listen to the people living this experience and help us ask what needs to change.
