To my little brother Nick:

This season mixtape hurts me to post because I wish it never had to end, but I am so proud of you man. You helped Commack reach their first county finals in school HISTORY last year, and now you’re finishing your career as an All LONG ISLAND 1ST TEAM, All County, and All Conference player, #1 in Points Per Game in the highest division in Suffolk AAA!

I’ll never forget meeting you at the YMCA as a 9 year-old kid. Everybody was telling me that you were a prodigy but I almost lost it when you asked to play me 1v1. I was like “Are you sure?” But that mentality and desire to improve yourself always stuck with me. I knew from that moment you had what it took to be great.

Fast forward to summer 2023 and now we are training together, preparing you for college together, and hanging out and talking about life together. You’re sharing with me how you’re reading the Bible consistently and tapping in with your church more. Later that same summer I get news that you are getting water baptized to commit your life to Jesus Christ. I told you I wouldn’t miss that moment for ANYTHING. The day comes and I get up to share. I couldn’t help but tear up in front of everyone while talking about how we met and what you & your entire family has meant to me. Your mom has told me many times before how much you look up to me. What’s funny is that even though you are younger, I am so inspired by you as well.. the fact that you are unashamed of the Gospel while being such a positive influence to everyone around you is truly a gift from God.

This basketball season I saw you take an even further step as a leader. Your team believes in you. That entire coaching staff believes in you. The entire Commack community believes in you. And trust me.. everybody who keeps up with Long Island basketball knows who you are.

Unfortunately, everything has to come to an end at some point. Thank you for showing everyone what this FAMILY is about. We are all super excited to see what you accomplish in the next chapter of your life. Love you brother. Continue being the light that shines God’s love wherever you go. #2out ✌🏼 by @middiecommiddie

George Kyriakopoulos (@george.kyria4) is a senior PG at McClancy. Excels at getting paint touches and making the right play out of it. Quick handle and good shooter also keeps him an offensive threat on the court. Makes up for smaller height by staying in the weight room and putting pressure on ballhandlers on defense. Leonard Thames (@show1imelenny) is a 6’3 senior at McClancy who showed out at the most recent runs. Extremely impressed with his efficiency. Gets to his spots and can finish at the rim, in the midrange, and from three very effectively. Can’t speed him up either. Colleges should be all over his recruitment right now. by @middiecommiddie

Productive weekend! Competed in @hoopgroup Jersey Jam Fest with our 16U team in the A/B combined bracket on Saturday and Sunday. Then spoke at the @asacoachesclinic today, touching on a myriad of topics pertaining to our approach, mindset, layering drills, and applications from trainings to games. by @middiecommiddie

I was supposed to take over as the varsity head coach of a solid program this coming winter. Unfortunately, I have just received news that they have rescinded the initial offer and decided to go in a different direction instead.

Since taking on this endeavor as a basketball instructor, the biggest change that I have seen in myself is that I’ve gone from a pessimist disguised as a “realist” to an extreme optimist. Not only am I excited to now be able to attend more games with no attachments to just 1 program, I can also devote the time I would’ve lost to continue building towards my future goals in this space.

As for how things went down with said program, it was handled as gracefully as could be. The athletic director who initially offered the job was very apologetic, and I was very understanding. I worked in corporate finance for 4 years.. I know how this shit goes sometimes. Though I’ve seen and heard of some lobbying being done in the corner of guys who don’t really know me or my character, I forgive them too. I am confident I would have done a great job there and prove the ones who hired me right. I am still wishing both their boys and girls program all the best this upcoming season and beyond.

The way God be moving.. He probably knows something I didn’t. Maybe I wasn’t ready to handle the responsibility just yet. All I can do now is continue to put my head down and work! Better opportunities will come by so we gotta stay ready 🫡 by @middiecommiddie
