RIP John Izod. John was a Professor of film at Stirling University from 1978 until he retired. I have such fond memories of being in classes with John, particularly on his module 'The Western', where John's passion for the films he showed allowed me to understand that being an uber nerd about film wasn't just okay, but that you could actually make a career out of it. John held a distinctive visual presence around Pathfoot building - he was tall, with a fantastic pointy beard and wonderful array of jumpers; to me he looked every bit what I might have imagined a professor to look like. He went to the great effort of screening films to us on 16mm film in some of our lecture theatre screenings, and when I asked him if he could show me how to work the projector, he lit up - inviting me into the projection room to help rig the projector and share the experience of a screening of Major Dundee from the booth. He waxed lyrical about John Wayne's abilities as a 'very fine' actor and was one of the toughest markers I ever experienced as a student. But somehow everything he taught made sense to me and his classes were among my favourite during my four years at Stirling. Later, I was lucky enough to call him my friend and I met him intermittently in the years since I graduated, from bumping into him randomly at the Edinburgh Film Festival at a Lindsay Anderson retrospective (he was his biggest fan and was pivotal in the setting up of the Lindsay Anderson archive at Stirling Uni), to being invited to join him at his house for lunch when I'd been back in Stirling for visits. He even made the effort to join me at a screening of my film Mind-Set at MacRobert Arts Centre despite his failing health - and sadly that was the last time I saw him. I'll miss you, John; your warmth, your passion, and that twinkle in your eye and boyish grin when you got talking about your passions - thank you for everything. 💔📽️🎞️🎬 by @middlemanproductions

Thank-you @flatmoonband for a brilliant evening last-night, and for choosing to start your UK tour in Lincoln @southsidelincs . Such an enjoyable night of funky and intelligent high energy music. Great to meet you too, and definitely hope to catch you again before the tour ends. ✌️ #funk #livemusic by @middlemanproductions

In August and September, I had the extraordinary opportunity to shoot my second feature film, 'In From the Dark' which was co-written by @georgiexmitchell . The fantastic crew was fronted by our brilliant principal cast @safbenaddi @osian.hw.morgan @emma._lowndes @hollingworthworth and #PaulKaye . I'm still looking for the last pieces of financial support to see our film through post-production, so please consider donating at the GoFundMe link in my bio (every penny goes towards getting the film out into the world). Thank-you to everyone who has already shown their generous support - it means the world to me and our team. 'In From the Dark', my latest feature film (co-written by Georgina Mitchell) is now moving into post-production and I am seeking your support. Now 90% funded, I am making a final push for donations and investors to see the film through to the finish line. Directing rising talents, Safiya Benaddi and Osian Morgan (pictured) has been one of the highlights of my directing career and I genuinely can't wait to show everyone their fantastic performances in this film. I was also delighted to have had the very best British acting talent, Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones), Emma Lowndes (Downton Abbey) and John Hollingworth (Poldark) in supporting roles around our young stars. Please help me make In From The Dark a reality by considering a donation to my GoFundMe campaign (link in bio) or contact me directly for investment opportunities. 🥰🎥🎬🎞️🛫 #indiefilm #britishfilm #screenwriter #director by @middlemanproductions

We've wrapped on 'In From the Dark'... what a fucking crazy 3-week ride. Indie filmmaking is a beautiful, stressful, insane vocation, but that's why we love it. It's the people that carry it through always and what a fantastic cast and crew we've had. Love to everyone who has made this shoot possible - you are the best! 🥰 #indiefilm #screenwriter #ukfilm 📽️ by @middlemanproductions

What is ‘In From the Dark’ all about?

Watch John Hollingworth, playing Talia’s step-dad, discuss the new upcoming feature film directed by BAFTA Scotland winner Mikey Murry, and producers Chris Greybe and Rachel Scarrott.

Many thanks to John Hollingworth, who is playing the character of Talia’s Stepdad, as he talks about ‘In From the Dark’ and finds what makes this feature film so unique!

Not only does this film tell a compelling story, it also opens up the film industry to young, upcoming film practitioners to a range of different new entrant roles around Lincolnshire, providing amazing opportunities.
